Male Yeast Infection

I was diagnosed with a male yeast infection which I got from my ex who was also diagnosed with the same. The Doctor prescribed Nystatin which I applied 3 times a day for 10 days. After which the infection symptoms reappeared after masturbation.

The Doctor said it is tough to get rid of especially in the summer with the heat and humidity. So he prescribed what he called a stronger topical cream ketoconazole; which I applied for 14 days once a day. The symptoms did subside, however, now after I masturbate, the skin on my penis turns red and the skin on my scrotum is also red.

I am so confused and depressed as I have been dealing with the issue for over 3 months now; since at first I didn't know what it was and assumed I had Herpes and was told I needed to wait 3 months to get tested and after taking a full STD Panel I came back negative for everything including Herpes; which prompted me to go to the doctor the next time symptoms appeared and that is when I was diagnosed with the yeast infection.

Is it possible my penis skin is just sensitive after completing the Ketoconazole treatment? I don't know how much more I can take it is really frustrating and I'm constantly depressed.

Where do I need to go to get an accurate diagnosis and is a male yeast infection that hard to remedy?

Any insight you have would be GREAT! I Need some guidance or help.

I don't have insurance that's why I'm asking.  Can I buy the female product or plain yogurt to treat my male yeast infection?

sounds like you should follow up with a dermatologist at this point as recommended already.

Grace,

I know you must hate me or think I'm crazy by now, but it seems to be more than just irritated. It continues to flake almost 10 days after being off topical meds and 8 days in to taking Diflucan 150mg daily for 14 days. Now the Doctors at walk in are telling me I should follow up with a dermatologist if it isn't improving.... I'm so LOST! What should I do?

this is just irritation if it's only occurring with masturbation.

no reason to think cancer!!!

Grace,

It is amazing I have seen 2 different Doctors at a Walk-In Med express clinic and both have prescribed to me, medication for my male Yeast infection, yet, I feel much more at ease after hearing your input than the Doctors.

Since completing the second round of topical creams ketaconazole, the symptoms again reappeared and I was now given a 14 day Prescription for Diflucan which cost me $189 out of pocket for the generic :(

After 7 days I again decided to pleasure myself; which has been my only form of sexual relief in now the past 5 months and I'm starting to feel like I won't ever be able to even enjoy that again. The skin on my penis again gets red on the head and looks somewhat dry while flaccid, yet, the redness is still present. It usually subsides after awhile or by next day.

As I stated in my last post I'm growing increasingly frustrated by lack of resolution to this matter and the now possible permanent change in the appearance of my penis.

Is this situation still consistent with the irritation from the topical meds or could there be something else going on? Could I possibly have penile cancer? I can't seem to understand why the Doctors don't seem to think anything is more serious. The last one did say if this round of medication isn't effective I may have to follow up with a primary physician which I can't afford because it may be a systemic issue.

I was always an easy going person and overall pretty happy. This experience is turning me into a different person and affecting my work and personal life. I've become isolated and am constantly depressed. I don't know what to do at this point.

Sorry for rambling on Grace I know this is not what this forum is here for.

Hopefully, you can give me some guidance or positive reinforcement of the course of treatment I'm on.

Thanks so much

any lube is fine - ky, astroglide etc - just avoid the enhanced pleasure lubes and such since the chemicals in them can really be irritating.

your penis will be just fine dear.   no reason to feel down because of jock itch!!!

Grace,

Since completing my 14 days of applying ketaconazole a week ago my skin still appears very dry on head of penis especially and I do notice some skin flaking off(very light). Is this consistent with possible irritation?

Lastly, since I won't be engaging in sex with a partner for awhile until I feel completely back to normal; can you recommend a good safe lube for a male to use prior to masturbation?

I feel so depressed about my condition since the yeast infection the appearance of my penis has changed and I'm concerned it may never return to its prior state. I've always been very stable emotionally but now am feeling so down I have thoughts of not wanting to do anything and am disconnected from life.

just a regular body powder like unscented shower to shower or a corn starch based baby powder ( never thought you'd be back in the baby section shopping eh? he he he )

No we did not Grace. She got one 3 months into our relationship and at 38 claimed she had just found out she had Herpes. At that point I was too involved to make a rational decision and stayed in the relationship. Before I sound judgemental, the rational decision was to leave her not because she had herpes; but, rather because she was a cheater and very long 3 and a half yrs we finally ended it. I was having symptoms of what I thought was herpes and waited about 13 weeks to get tested; and about 16 weeks from initial symptoms and was negative of all on full stp panel including hsv I & II.

I will lay off the masturbating for a bit longer and follow your advice. What type of powder do you recommend? Soory to ask what appears to be dumb question, however, after this experience I'm hesitant to put anything on myself.

Thanks for answering my post.

It's not unusual for skin to be sensitive from the use of topical antifungals. if symptoms are only appearing with masturbation, no reason for any concern.

did you and your partner get full std testing prior to starting to be sexual together?

sometimes after treating for yeast, the best thing to do is just give your genital area some extra tlc for the next week or two. try something as simple as powdering your genital area prior to getting dressed to decrease friction and absorb excess moisture.  also a good lube prior to masturbation will also be a good idea too.
