Work with the dermatologist. I suspect this is coincidence. EWH
Hi doctor
I went to a dermatologist yesterday and he checked the raised skin around my penis tip and is stating to come back in a month to see if a wart declares itself. I began seeing the raised skin on feb 1st. How long would it take to declare? I am a bit perplexed as I am sure I had a condom on during oral sex.
We make a concious effort not to get between our clients and their health care providers unless we detect some sort of problem. Your doctor soounds like he/she is doing the right thing. You should be asking your dermatologist, who has had a chance to examine you, when he/she would like to re-examine you.
HIV testing is a waste of time and money. If you need to get a test for your peace of mind, that's up to you. A standard HIV antibody test will give you completely reliable results at 8 weeks following exposure. Being tested with a combined test for p24 antigen and HIV antibody will provide conclusive results at 4 weeks. EWH
Thanks Dr. Hook.
When you state you most likely would recommend hydrocortisone, are there any other types of topical agents I can use if in fact these are allergic reactions? Also how long would you say i should wait if the bumps do not clear up before returning to my dermatologist?
Once again I know this is not the HIV forum but if I would like to get checked what blood test can provide me the quickest and accurate results.
Welcome to our Forum. I see you have asked the same questions on the HIV Prevention Community site and agree with the advice that was given, including hoping that your partner did not get HSV from her exposure (it is likely since a condom was used). The activities you describe do not put you at any risk for STD (including HPV). The irritation at the tip of your penis makes me wonder if rather than a HSV recurrence whether or not you might have had a reaction to the lubricants or the lubricants made the recurrence you did experience worse. Hard to know at this time.
With regard to your specific questions:
1. See above. I do agree that, along with therapy for your HSV, topical hydrocortisone may help the bumps to heal more quickly. That is most likely what I would have recommended.
2. No. There are very, very rare reports of HPV transmission through inanimate objects but they are so rare as to not be a realistic concern. Further, I would be most surprised if the towel was not clean before you laid on it.
3. Hope this helps. I would not worry about HPV or, for that matter, any other STD related to the activities you describe. EWH
