Massage parlour exposure

Dear doctors,

Last night I visited an erotic massage parlour in Toronto. The masseuse and I were both naked and she rubbed her body on mine. There was brief contact with my penis and her inner thigh. I told her that I did not want genital to genital contact.

She then gave me a hand job for about 30 minutes. During this time she touched her vagina and used the same hand to give me a hand job. I also touched her vagina and then touched my own penis. At the end of the massage I noticed a bump on her vaginal lip. I am very very concerned now that she was having a herpes outbreak and that she touched herself and then touched my penis. Also, she rubbed her vagina on my knee.

I read in other posts that this has very low risk. However, I called the Toronto STD hotline and they told me I may have been exposed to the virus since she could have touched her sore and then touched my penis. Also, they said any part of my body that came in contact, including my knee was at risk. I am very concerned as these people are experts in the field.

Please let me know your thoughts on this. Since the exposure I have had difficulty concentrating on anything but this experience and every sensation makes me worry.

Thank you for your time.

1.  While there is a theoretical risk from having your knee touched this is simply not realistic and is not something to worry about.  Intact skin is  highly effective barrier to infection.

2.  HSV is not transmitted from one person's genitals to another person on someone's hands.  EWH

Thank you for your response doctor. That is definitely reassuring.

Just two follow up questions.

1. The Toronto hotline said that even my knee was at risk. Is this true? Because it came into direct contact with the potential herpes sore?

2. If she was repeatedly touching her vagina and then immediately touching my penis, and this happened several times, you would still say the risk is remote?

Thank you.

I need to respectfully disagree with the folks on the Toronto hotline.  While I suppose that the touching that took place during your massage could have transmitted an STD such as herpes, in practice it simply does not happen.  For starters a "bump" is not a herpes lesions which is typically shallow ulcers.  In addition, while there is a theoretical risk that she might have transmitted something with her rubbing, I can tell you with confidence that STDs are not transmitted from person to person on one of the person's hands.

I urge you not to worry. If this is HSV you will develop lesions in the next 14 days.  I am confident this will not happen.  Try to not worry.  EWH
