Mysterious Bump

Mysterious Bump

I found a mysterious little bump on the opening of my vagina a month ago. It is hard and skin-colored and looks similar to a pimple. It doesn't hurt at all.

I thought maybe it was a genital wart and that I had contracted HPV, but when I went to the doctor she said it was likely that it had always been there and I never noticed and my pap smear/HPV results came back normal (meaning I don't have HPV). I also have had the first shot of the Gardasil vaccine.

Well now this bump has grown slightly and from what I can gather on the internet genital warts are caused by HPV. So if I don't have HPV, what is this bump?

A pap test can't detect external genital warts. it only checks for hpv infections on the cervix.

The gardasil vaccine isn't fully effective until after the 3rd shot.  It's not going to help a previously acquired hpv infection either.

If the bump is growing then you need to return to your provider or go see a different one for a 2nd opinion.
