NGU No response to Antibiotics - Other ideas?

by NGU2, Jun 08, 2009 12:14PM
My partner and I are experiencing symptoms that began about the same time 5/29 - she has conjunctivitis that has at this point spread to both eyes although being prescribed antibiotic eyedrops.  About the same time I developed an itching sensation that eventually progressed and became painful and small clear discharge.  Also I have some swelling and redness at the tip of the penis.  Went to the STD clinic on 6/4, was sampled and diagnosed with NGU.  I also had a tender lymph node on one side of my groin.  Took prescription of 1g Azithromycin and Cipro for me as well as partner on 6/4.  Since then her eyes have gotten worse, as has my painful urination.  The discharge has increased and gone from clear to milky.  We've been taking amoxicillin 500mg x 3 since 6/6 with no sign of improvement in any of the conditions.  In fact, I am now developing the conjunctivitis!  That being said, is this something that may be indicative of another factor?  I searched on the threads and saw that it could possibly be adenovirus, and if so what is the treatment for this?  If chlamydia/gonorrhea are ruled out, could it possibly be tri?  What is the best way to approach this with my gp to be tested (i.e., is this something like staph or strep)?  Thanks for the help, I am just growing concerned that this doesn't seem to be getting better.  I realize also that the conjunctivitis may in fact be unrelated, it is just strange that we both started showing symptoms at the same time.

WEll this is could be something else like an STD.. although you are taking amoxicillin, that is not going to do anything for an STD.

If it were Chlamydia they the Azithromax would have cleared that up for both of you. Yoy need to get a FULL STD panel to figure this out, it could be Trich, Gono, it could have been Chlamydia but again the zithromax would have clear chlamydia.

Although oyu both need testing all the meds you are taking could effect the test results so waiting may be needed... also conjunctivitis takes at least two weeks to go away and is extreamly contagious which is most likely why she has it in both eyes now...

Also have a urinalysis done. I just learned this morning that a lot of times bactria is found like sterp or staph.
