Urine test are to be taken at least 4 hours after your last urination. If you urinate you wash out the urethra of what ever is in it. Sounds like you need a second opinion and a swab. I just went to my urologist and he ordered a Myco and Uroplasma tes for me. At first when I mentioned plasma he was acting a little quizzical but when I told him Myco or Uro he said oH and punched it up on the computer. The test tube that they used had three little gel like balls in them and right away I felt like I made the right decision. Still I need to know How contagious is Myco and Uroplasma, from what ive read it rivals only the common cold in contractiveness. Oh yeah I almost forgot I have the Tetracyclne already (My urologist is the best) but dosage wise what is the recommended dosage.
If you are having pain and discharge, I agree with you, I don't think you're fine. Those are not psychological symptoms. I had to go through the same thing, doctors telling me I was fine when I still was having symptoms. But my symptoms did come and go, including urinalysis tests which were negative for a while and then turned positive. It turned out I had Ureaplasma, not Gonorrhea or Chlamydia, and that was why all of my G/C tests were negative but I still had symptoms. The doctors unwillingness to test me meant I suffered for about 4 months when I really didn't have to.
The next most likely things to test for are Ureaplasma, Mycoplasma, and Trichomonas. Those tests are not normally done, but the tests are available. It's really up to you if you'd like to be tested for those or not. Often the tests are not covered by insurance, so they might be expensive.
The other option, which is cheaper, is to just pursue treatment. You could try something like 2g Azithromycin, which is effective against most forms of NGU. That is going to be cheaper that doing the tests, and it might work.
Feel free to ask me any questions, I know a lot more about this than I ever would have cared to but I do try to help out other people stuck in the same frustrating situation.
Sorry about the caps. Basically i have irritation after urinating and clear discharge every morning and throughout the day. Chlmydia and gonnorrhea tests negative and all the doctors say I am fine but I dont feel fine. It is very frustrating.
Man all caps is hard to read. That said:
First thing to keep in mind is NGU just means non gonococcal urethritis, so any cause of urethritis other than Gonorrhea is considered NGU. The most common is Chlamydia.
What you must have had done is a urinalysis. What this looks for is leukocyte esterase, which is an enzyme which indicates presence of white blood cells in your urine. White blood cells (leukocytes) are usually present when you have an infection.
Some urinalysis tests also include looking for nitrite, which can indicate some types of bacteria.
So, if your urinalysis is positive for white blood cells, there's a good chance you have an infection. However, it gives absolutely no indication as to what is causing it. You could have a positive urinalysis for a UTI the same way you could for Chlamydia the same way you could for Gonorrhea. The problem with this test is that it's going to miss a lot of infections, about 30%. In my opinion, that is too high to ever rely on it as the only test performed. But it is a useful tool since it costs nearly nothing and you get immediate results.
The urine test for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea was probably a DNA based test, and if this is the case, those are quite accurate. You can be sure that if you had either one of those, that test will come back positive. Since Chlamydia is a form of NGU, this test will in fact test for one type of NGU. But it does leave out several more, the most important of which is Trichomonas, Mycoplasma, and Ureaplasma. I would not worry about any of those at this time, however.
A urine culture does not typically grow out the bacteria types associated with STDs. That is because different types of bacteria require different types of cultures. A urine culture will typically grow out the types of bacteria associated with UTIs. So the answer here is will the culture show NGU? Probably not, but I don't know the type of culture that was ordered.
