The doctor on the STD forum which people have to pay for told someone that "The normal pap smear and exam do not prove she isn't infected. Paps and physical exams do not pick up most HPV infections, especially the types that cause warts."
SO I feel I do not need to worry about that, and that I most likely do not have the main four that Gardisil protects against. SO should I go ahead and take the three rounds of shots?
In a way, I wonder if I do have it, and I am praying to God I do not, but when I went for my exam, the doctor said everything looked great down there so I am not for sure what to think. So please help!!!
To add to this, the second bump which looks like a pimple is gone, and that is only day 2, so I do guess I overreacted when it was an ingrown hair! But still any suggestions? I just praise God for everything!!!
First of all HPV is not picked up on a pap unless your doctor specifically tests for it. If your OBGYN did test for HPV but said the strain was too low to tell if you had it or not, then you would not have warts. HPV is High and Low risk only. There is no in between. You need to find out if the OBGYN actually did the HPV test. I find it hard to believe that she would do a biopsy not knowing wether or not you had this virus. Biopsies are usually done on high risk HPV strains as those are the one that can lead to cervical cancer. You need to get more info from your OBGYN. I hope this helps and good luck.
What they can tell from a pap, is that if it comes back abnormal, and it is a certain grade, it's usually caused by high risk HPV. I don't know what your pap said but it must have been in the the group that is caused by high risk HPV. Low risk HPV does not show up on a pap. They can see that you have warts and that is how they determine that you have low risk HPV. My pap was LGSIL which means that I have high risk HPV. They did a colposcopy but there was nothing to biopsy so I just have to go back every 6 months and get another paps until they come back normal or worse in which case they will do something about it. Cancer usually takes a long time to form which is why it's important to see the dr regularly in case there are any changes, they can removed the bad skin. Most people own immune system will take care of the HPV and it will regress. It's also the most common STD out there. It's said that most sexually active people will be exposed to HPV at one time or another in their lifespan. It's actually as common as a cold. It's a skin to skin virus, not carried through the blood which is why it is so easy to get.
I just re-read your post and I too wonder why they are doing a biopsy when your pap was basically fine. Most people with the low grade pap that you had, just have a yeast infection. Do they just want to do another pap???
I think going ahead and getting the vaccine is a great idea. Go for it!!
