Need help scared.. Is it herpes???

by NeedHelpScared, Mar 09, 2006 12:00AM
I recently went to Canada. I made a big mistake. I has protected sex with two escorts. The sessions only lasted about a min for each. About 3 days after I started to get a burning or raw feeling between my thighs and scrotum on both sides, under my scrotom and also on the bottom of both butt cheecks. It also feels irritated on both inner thighs now also. It feels like its irrated kind like when you sweat down there or if you sit too long and then get up. The feeling is not real painful just annoying. It seems to burns more when i am sitting down. It is now 5 days later and the irritation still seems to be there. I did not notice or feel any bumps down there. I have not had a fever or flu like symptoms yet. I am really worried...Please help....

Should I be worried?
Are these the beginning symptoms of herpes?
I am over reacting? Should I get some herpes medicine right away?

Those symptoms--both the symptoms themselves and the location--sound like a fungal infection (e.g., jock itch) or similar infection, but not herpes.  But of course see a health care provider for proper diagnosis and advice.

Good luck-- HHH, MD

Thanks two more questions and that's it...

Is it true herpes will form at the spot is was contracted at?

What are the chances of catching it using a condom?

In general, herpes symptoms are limited to the place(s) where the virus enters the body; it doesn't cause diffuse rash or irritation such as you describe.  Condoms are pretty good protection against herpes, but not perfect, because some skin-to-skin contact occurs above the condom rim.

  Doctor,

Does ANYTHING sound like Herpes to you?

What do you want me to do, suggest it's herpes when the symptoms are highly atypical?  If someone describes symptom that suggest herpes, I'll say so (and have).  But people with classical herpes generally don't need to ask me what's going on, so you don't see many threads from persons with typical STD symptoms.  Likewise, the people who post questions about HIV fears, when there is no realistic risk of infection, are not typical of most sexually active persons potentially exposed to HIV or STDs.
