Need your Help

Hi Dr. I am 28 yrs old, male. I had sex (protected with condom) for the first time with a sex worker in a massage parlour on June 11th 2005. She gave me oral with condom and at the end i was about to ejaculate. I stopped her and then with erection i did a vaginal with condom on. In less than a min i lost my erection but the condom was still on covering the head of the penis. I cld've had my partially erected/unerected penis with condom within her for less than a minute. May be the bottom wld've got exposed to the vaginal fluids. As far as i know, i did'nt have any open sore or skin lesion on my penis or surrounding area. I forgot this incident as a bad dream and went on with my routine. After, Two months I noticed rashes (looked like bruises) and went to a dermatologist. He examined and gave me hydrocortisone cream. It healed. From that point I became very worried and was full of anxiety. The panic and anxiety level was so high that was crying most of the times and could not do my work or anything.I took a HIV test (after contemplating the fear of testing for a couple of weeks) through one of the confidential testing centers (through Labcorp) after 3 months and it came back negative. I got relieved so much. Now, after 8 months I had a boil in my left armpit. I visited the doctor and she told me it is an infected cyst and I have to drain the abscess. She also gave me an antibiotic (cefadroxil) but told me boils like this need to be drained by a physician. I went to a general surgeon as per her advice and he drained the abscess. The doctors did not tell me whether I had swollen lymph nodes or not. This is the only place I had the boil and the boil was not associated with any fever. The rash which I got the first time on my penis was also not associated with Fever. I moved from India to US on May 2005. So, sometimes I think that weather and other changes cld also play a role. Also, I stopped using soaps for about a couple of months before getting this boil. My house is always on heater and don

Thanks a lot Dr. I will follow the doctor's advice. Just wanted to ask you one more question and with that i will stop. Excuse me for adding on to this thread. Will i get boils in armpits if i had used my fingers to rub my nostrils and then put the unclean hand on my armpit? Is it possible? I also have constant ringing in my left ear. Again, i understand that it is impossible to diagnose over internet source but i as you have mentioned i need to know the facts and probabilities on this. I am sorry for asking another question. Will stop with this. Your answer will help me a lot.

If you do not have any pre-existing immune system problems, been on PEP, using Heroin, anything else out of the ordinary, your 3 month test should have been the absolute last time you ever thought about this HIV "exposure" situation. A 3-month test is it, especially given this non-exposure situation you had to begin with. A 3-month test is damn good.

Your situation is much too complex for a distant, online source to speculate about causes of your symptoms, especially when more than one doctor has personally examined you and unable to come up with clear answers.  I will simply state that the sexual exposure you describe was very low risk, especially for HIV; that your HIV test results prove without doubt you do not have HIV; that none of your symptoms suggests any STD; and they probably are entirely unrelated to the sexual exposure you describe, except for the obvious component of anxiety over it.  All I can do is suggest you continue to follow your doctors' advice; or, if uncertain about their expertise, seek another provider.

I'm glad you view my "counseling" as potentially helpful, but I cannot and do not practice medicine or counsel people from a distance; I only provide facts and probabilities.

Good luck--  HHH, MD
