ONE red bump on shaft of penis and rash on bottom of scrotum

by mayhaveherpes, Mar 07, 2007 12:00AM
Hello, I am very worried I might have genital herpes. About 1 to 3 weeks after having unprotected sex, but also around a time I masturbated frequently, I developed ONE large red bump on the shaft of my penis near the base. It didn't pop, ooze pus, or scab over. It went away after a seemingly very long period of time, about 2 months I suspect. For about 2-3 months after that, there was no problems and I thought it might have been an ingrown hair, but just about a 2 weeks ago, the same type of bump appeared in what I think is the same exact spot. It won't pop, it doesn't ooze pus or anything, and it doesn't scab over. I pricked it with a pin and it looks like theres nothing but blood inside (I know I shouldn't have done that but I am extremely anxious to see if I can compare it to anything anyone else has written online; it resembles some descriptions people have given, but never completely). I get cold sores on my lips but they usually ooze pus or scab over. Additionally, for about a year I have a rash on the bottom of my scrotum that sometimes spreads up the side a little bit. The veins in my scrotum where the rash is are purpleish, this rash seems to intensify and weaken but never completely go away. I run ten miles a day and sometimes jogging intensifies it, sometimes it doesn't. Please advise me as to what I might have.

I have genital herpes, and I can tell you that is not what you have. Herpes sores do not just create one little red bump, they create a cluster of painful blisters that open and then scab over before healing. I'm not sure what your red bump is being caused by, it could be a genital wart or simply folliculitis, but I can promise you it isn't herpes. At any rate, get checked by your physician to see what's up.

Also, that groin rash that you described is just a fungal rash, quite common in someone like yourself that runs alot. It's nothing to worry about and isn't indicative of any type of STD, but if it bothers you you can put put hyrdocortizone cream on it and that will make it go away.

I kind of have the same problem. i recently had an encounter with somebody who i might suspect to have herpes. I noticed a red bump which may or may not have been there befor hand. I am wondering if anybody knows how long for a soar to fully delope?

Hi Jeff

Can you describe more about Genital herpes. Are you mor elikely to get more than 1 blister at a time?
Also i have an occasional stinging sensation in my urethra. Is this a symptom?

Thanks

Jamie

Hi Jamie. I can only speak from my personal experience as I've had genital herpes for four years now, but I would say that you are most likely to get more than one sore at a time, especially early on in infection. A burning sensation in your urethra could be a variety of things, and since I'm not a doctor I won't speculate on what it is. My advice to you is to go get tested for HSV if you think you may have been exposed, as well as all other STD's, and of course be sure to have regular pap smears. Hope this helps :)

Sorry Jamie, my last post assumes that your a female. If you're male then forget the part about the pap smears, lol.

Thanks Jeff

Aren't tests for Herpes really unreliable though. Thats what ive heard. Clinics dont like doing blood tests for Hepres because results aren't accurate?

What do you think?

Cheers

From what I understand, they are pretty reliable. I don't know too much about that though, because I never had a blood test. I was diagnosed by the doctor seeing my outbreak. I think the tests are pretty reliable though.

Hey Jamie -

Browse the Doctor-Patient Forum for the test accuracy.  Dr. Hansfield says that within 12 weeks, the IGG blood tests for Herpes (type specific) are very accurate.  He is specific about the type of test, the length of time to exposure to test and etc.
