Oh did I ever screw up.....

Hello....I am in some desperate need of help.

I am currently in China on a business trip. A week ago I was in Singapore. I was jet lagged and very drunk and went with some coworkers to a bar. Long story short I picked up a "working girl" from the bar. We went back to my hotel and as I was drunk, I was unable to maintain an erection while putting on a condom, so.....yup....had unprotected sex.

I feel so unbelievably horrible about my stupidity right now, I can't even function at my job. Maybe 2 days after, I started to get a burning sensation and a tiny bit of whitish discharge from my penis. After a lot of research, I'm pretty sure its gonorrhea, but of course it could also be chlamydia.

I can't go to visit a Chinese doc because I will need to include a co-worker for translation. However, I do suffer from diverticulitis occasionally and I travel with prescriptions of Cipro 500mg and Flagyl. I started taking both 2 days ago. Not sure if there is any improvement, but I think so.

OK, so I am stupid obviously, but I have researched some and know that a one time 500mg dose of Cipro was a treatment option for gonorrhea up until about 5 years ago, and now it has become resistant. Also, I know that Cipro is not the preferred treatment for chlamydia.

I guess now, my questions are:

Does resistant mean it does not work at all? I mean if take all 28 pills over 14 days along with the Flagyl, that should work, right?

Also, I have some doxycycline at home that I usually take with me for my trips to India to prevent malaria. Should I take this when I get home just in case I actually have chlamydia?

Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated. I truly can't sleep over this.

And yes, I will get tested for HIV when I get home. (by the way, given the above story, what would be the "true" odds of contracting HIV?)

God I'm an idiot......please help...

It won't do much of anything.  Its not needed at all, but if you must take it, you must.

Thanks all. I feel a little better already.

One more question....

Obviously I really need this to work. I took the 1g of Azith. last night as well as the cefixime last night. Would it hurt anything to take the remainder of what I bought, just be "safe" and make sure it works?

I have .5 gram of azith and 150mg of cefixime left.

If you insist on self treating, then no, you don't have to wait.

Thank you all.

I followed some of the advice. I am still self medicating, but I have done a lot of research.

I went to a western style pharmacy near my hotel and picked up azithromycin for the chlamydia and cefixime for the gonorrhea.

Total cost was $8. Not bad. I researched the drug companies that make it and they are basically big name US companies that have joint ventures here.

Does anybody know if I should wait before taking them considering I took a dose of Cipro and Flagyl about 8 hours ago? Probably not...

Aj is very correct.  It isn't likely that a man contacts HIV from a woman on one exposure (But please be more careful), unless your in certain parts of western and southern Africa or with one of their descendants.  There really not sure why, but they think it has something to do with a yeast that lives in the members of those people groups virginia and they they think that has some way of moving it up a man's urethra.  That's something that isn't talked about much, but it's there if you look.

Oh and if it doesn't cure anything, then it might screw up testing for a couple of weeks following.

The best estimate we have for a man to get HIV from a positive female is about a 1 in 2000 chance.

Flagyl will only work on trichomoniasis.  Cipro might cure gonorrhea, maybe chlamydia.

What will happen though, is if you take them that long, you could get a yeast infection, and create resistance to that medication, and when you need it for diverticulitis, it might not work.

I wouldn't recommend self medication.  Do an Internet search on English language doctors in your region, or call the nearest US embassy and tell them you need to find a doctor that speaks English.  I don't think you'll have to go into detail with them, but if you do just suck it up they don't know yow.  It happens more than you think.  And yes, STDs are very bad in Asia.

well recently I have been diagnosed with trichamonisis and they gave me metronidazole which is the same thing as flagyl and the doctor said it treats infections so it should help for now but you need to go to a doctor as soon as possible and find out what you have because you could have trichamonisis you have the same symptoms... but I am not a doctor and I would definatey check with the doctor as soon as you get home... I think you should take the flagyl until then to ease your symptoms

There is no true odds of catching HIV. It is out there and it is tough to find out the rate of infection in other countries, so it is tough to access your risk. But I can tell you that even if someone did have an STD including HIV it does not mean because you had unprotected sex that you get the infection.

As for the medication aspect I am not sure on but someone on here will know.
