Oral sex and mono

by art07, May 31, 2009 10:54PM
I had mono about 3 months ago. It lasted for two weeks and I recovered fairly quickly. It took a while for doctors to diagnose me. My first symptoms were puffy eyes and then swollen lymph nodes, sore muscles, low energy...etc. Initially, I tested negative for mono but after getting blood work back it was clear that I had it.

So...recently (about 3 days ago) I had oral sex with a guy and swallowed semen. Maybe a day or two after that...I started to develop the same mono like symptoms that I had before. (Swollen lymph nodes, sore muscles, low energy level and fevers at night). I've only had sex with one other person and this guy seems like a clean guy. Is it possible that oral sex could have re-activated the mono? Or could I have contracted an STD like pharyngeal gonorrhea by having oral sex? I read that it's rare to get mono twice...so I don't know what's going on.

You had unprotected oral and that is a low risk but still a risk for certain STDs such as Gono, Syphilis and HSV2

You should see your health care provider about your symptoms and get tested for Gono in 2 weeks
