I would summarize your symptoms as consistent with genital herpes but not typical.  Yeast infections also often have slit-like breaks in the inflamed areas, and itching is not a prominent symptom of herpes but is for yeast infection.

Your blood test is suggestive of a false-positve result for HSV-2.  In people with positive HSV-1 results, which you have, and whose HSV-2 result is technically positive but below 3.5, over half have false positive results.  So the odds are strong you are not infected with HSV-2.

The way to sort it out is to have a second type-specific HSV-2 antibody test, using a different test than the orignal one.  If you are in the US, you probably had a HerpeSelect test.  Talk to your provider about aranging for a repeat test with the BiokitUSA test, or with the Kalon test (produced in the UK but available at some labs in the US).  Or if a cost of $150-200 is not a serious limitation, have a specimen sent to the University of Washington lab in Seattle for a Western blot assay--the gold standard.  All labs know how to send specimens to reference laboratories for special testing.

I hope this helps. Best wishes--  HHH, MD

It does state that you are indeed infected with herpes 2, but it is weekly positive, which may indicate a false positive.  You should have a Western Blot test to confirm.  The cut on your genitals does raise suspicion to me though.

FYI...There is no such thing as exposure.  If you have hsv 1 and/or 2 antibodies, you are infected with the virus & can transmit it to others.  You may not have severe outbreaks, but someone else may.

regarding the blood test, after reading a lot of possible false positive HSV II result in the present of a high positive HSV I, i was hoping this could be my case. the itch associated with the papercut still continues long after the cut is gone.
