Pee splashback scared

Hi Doctor,
Last Friday, I went to the movies with my niece. She had to use the restroom, and so did I. I let her go in first. She told me she couldn't flush the toilet, so I told her to leave it like that because I was going to use the same toilet. She came out and I made sure she washed her hands, after I told her to hold on to my wallet and I went in. As I was looking at the toilet, I saw urine in the toilet and some around the toilet seat.  The urine was some what smelly, and it looked foamy. I was a bit disgusted, but since I thought it was my niece I didn't care. I never sit on toilets. I squatted to pee, and while I was peeing some pee splash on my thighs. I wasn't sure if it was the one in the toilet or toilet sit or mine. So I freak out so bad that I didn’t even wipe myself or the pee that drop on me, I just put on my pants and the toilet flushed (automatic toilet). I told my boyfriend what happened and he told me not to worry about that it was probably my own pee, I didn't get so concern because I thought it was my niece pee( she's nine).  Still in the back of my head, I asked my niece if she left pee in the toilet, and she told me NO, and she said that: she went in the toilet and got a lot of paper wipe down the sit, put toilet paper on top of the toilet and sat down and pee, she wipe herself and threw the paper in and it flushed on its own, after she threw the rest in, and it didn’t flush it (she's a clean freak like me). I'm assuming I went to the wrong toilet, if she didn't leave pee behind. I want to know if you can get herpes or any other STD from urine that seems fresh in the toilet and in the toilet sit. I didn't wipe the area that pee got splash to, is that a big risk?  Also didn't take shower when I got home, until the next day because I thought it was pee from my niece, is that a big risk? I was also reading that new studies show that herpes viruses in pee could last up to 4 hours is that true?I'm scared that I came in contact w/some1 else’s pee

You do not need to worry.  There is no reason to think that STDs might be in the urine in the toilet and even if there had been they would have been dead.  STDs do not survive in pure water (or water contaminated by urine).  STDs are nor effectively spread by urine and particularly by urine which has splashed onto a toilet seat.  You do not need to worry and do not need testing.  EWH
