Persistent throat infection, viral?

I am a 27YOA WM, straight, same partner past several years. Last March I was in S America and while dancing at a club I was kissed by a girl. There was a lot of deep kissing. Then no other contact, no sex although I think her motives were questionable. This has to be from saliva transfer. I had no other exposures to out of the norm people or stuff. Within 1 day I had a tingling like pins and needles in the top soft part of my mouth and in the back of my throat. Within two weeks I had a red and white bumpy rash in the back of my throat. I have small bumps in the top of mouth now. the pins and needles and rash have slowly gotten worse. This is now 8 months. I have been given three different antibiotics with no effect. I tried a two week, 3 pills a day Valtrex treatment with no effect. It feels like my ear tubes behind my jaw are sore. My stool is loose and I get indigestion so I assume it has spread to my whole GI tract. I have seen ENT and ID doctors with no luck. The only thing I have tested positive for in Sept is HSV. I had a 38 for past exposure but less than 1 for an active infection. I have had cold sores in the past but not in the last year. The ENT scoped my throat and said it is red as far as could be seen. What can I be tested for? Would a biopsy show what it is or just if it is something viral? How can I be treated? Any direction will be very helpful.

did you ever find answers about your symptoms? I have a similar thing going on with myself. Just curious, I don't know what this is. I have a sore throat with white bumps and significant intestinal problems that came on suddenly in Nov 2007.  I have had no relief, but have a history of travel in South America as well.

I later found out the working girls often flirt and make out with guys to get them to buy their services. It is a very good possibility this was the case. I very much believe this was the source, that or something else in the country. The ENT did 2 biopsies. The first, of an area that felt like a pizza cheese burn, this was viral but no other info. The second showed normal, but may not have been a good sample. The GI was a symptom of the original cause so I think the source should be a better starting point. I still have no good direction though.

This is very unlikely to be due to herpes.  Herpes doesn't cause this extensive of symptoms for this long.

You should continue to follow up with the ENT doctor for a further work up. I assume they took biopsy's when they scoped you?  You should also consider a GI specialist if you are having symptoms in your entire GI tract.  I would assume that it starting after you made out with that gal a pure coincidence.
