Possible Herpes??

Possible Herpes??

I had sex two times recently (two promiscuous girls, two weeks ago and this Monday). Used condom. Also had unprotected oral 4 months ago.  On Tuesday I decided to examine more closely and discovered one white smooth bump (2-3mm). Its painless (until I attempted to pop it, at which time blood came out).  The doctor examined it and said its either a genital wart or ingrown hair. I carefully examined my genitals that day and discovered two more tiny, tiny bumps where the shaft meets the head on the underside. I also discovered a small, white bump on scrotum and picked off. It bled and turned into a painless crater.  Theres are also a few small bumps on scrotum (invisible unless skin is stretched).  I went back to the doctor to ask about herpes (it wasnt mentioned before). He examined again and couldnt tell so took a blood test, since I had contracted it within a month, I am not sure of the accuracy (I didnt know this until I did some research). Now, original bump, when unstretched and examined under light, looks like white indentation. when stretched, its definitely raised. None of the bumps are painful, and are I can feel a solid bump under the skin.  The thing that brought up GREAT concern was the development of "herpes whitlow" on my fingers and a red bump on palm today, which when popped, created a lesion. I have had herpes whitlow before on my fingers, and am not sure if I've gone long without it but I'm not sure I would've noticed. Sound like herpes? Thanks for thoughts!

Most likely you are just noticing normal anatomic variants, like sebaceous cysts, hair folicles, and the like.  See a health care provider for confirmation, but you describe nothing that could possibly be herpes.  I would have strongly recommended against the HSV blood test; and you are right, the test too early to detect an infection you caught that recently.  But if it is negative, you should stop there.

Let's not get into another 'yes but' or 'what if' discussion like those so common as follow-up comments.  Just let it go.

Good luck-- HHH, MD

Thanks Doctor!
Just one clarification--so you think the Herpes Whitlow is unrelated/irrelevant?  I've read that its commonly transmitted through genital to hand contact.  If it were indeed a cyst/ingrown hair, how long would it take to go away?  What are the primary differences between a cyst and warts?
Thanks again!

You found an unreliable website, or you misinterpreted what it said.  In theory herpes whitlow could be acquired by fingering, but I have never seen a case or heard of it happening.  I have no further comments on speculative questions about cysts versus herpes or warts.
