Possible STD Infection & Treatment Question

Hello Dr.'s,

My situation is that in early June I had unprotected (I know stupid) sex with a female I have limited knowledge of. She swore she was clean but I know now after research that some of the more common STD's show no symptoms. I was not initially worried about possible STD's but after a couple weeks I did have 1 or 2 (hard to remember) instances of painful urination in the morning and I believe some very limited clear leakage for those couple days. At some point in early August I had a bad throat infection and was given a z-pack (2-250mg pills the first day followed by 1 pill a day after that). At the same point in time my wife was given Augmentin for bronchitis. I cannot remember the dosage she was given but I seem to remember it was for about 10 days.

Since those couple instances of painful urination I have had no further incidences of it. I do sometimes get a sharp pain between my testicles and anus but that has been happening for years. Sometimes the pain is just random and other times during urination so I'm not sure if that is relevant or not.

My question is would the antibiotics taken be sufficient to clear up any common STD's I may have gotten and possibly passed on to my wife? I did finally go get an STD test today but those results won't be back for a few days and I was just trying to seek some quicker advice.

Thanks for your time.....

Welcome to the Forum. while the statistics are all very much in your favor an leave very, very little chance that you got an STD from this encounter, the fact is, the only way to be absolutely sure that you did not get an STD is to get tested.  You I so you will soon have a definitve answer.  Personally I doubt that you even needed testing but let me review the reasons why I cannot give you complete assurance that you don't have an STD:

1.  Most people do not have STDs, but a small proportion o.
2.  Most exposures to infected partners are not transmitted with a single exposure, but it happens.
3.  Your partner said she I not have STDs.  Most people tell the truth but some people don't know that they have STDs.
4.  Most STDs in men are symptomatic an when symptoms occur, they are continuous, not intermittent as are the symptoms you mention.  Your symptoms are not suggestive of STD.
5.  The antibiotics you took are less than the recommended dose for STDs but would still cure some infected persons.

Bottom line.  I'd be willing to bet your STD tests will be negative.  Until they are don't worry and when they are, believe the results.  Take care. EWH

One other aspect that may or may not be of significance. The night before I had the first burning sensation during urination I did receive oral sex from my wife. Not sure if this matters but thought I should add it.
