Possible trich? chlamydia?

by blam77, Nov 09, 2009 02:10PM
I've noticed a strange irritation feeling within my urethra lately and a slight irritation/sensitivity at the tip of the penis.  I have NOT had any discharge, pain with urination, cloudy urine, testicular soreness.  I went to a clinic and they gave me a single cipro pill(500 mg i think) and single 4 dose of zithromax in case of chlamydia/gonorrhea but I still seem to have these symptoms.  Any thoughts?  Could this be trichomonas? Still be chlamydia even after treatment?

It's hard to describe but just a feeling of a slight irritation in the urethra.  The opening(meatus) doesn't appear red and the doctor did examine me there also, seeing no redness around or inside the urethra.

Welcome to the Forum. the symptoms you describe could have been representative of either chlamydial infection or non-gonococcal urethritis.  If you were not tested before treatment you will probably not know since the treatment you received will cure both of these problems.  Alternatively, this may have just been heightened awareness if you are concerned about possible infection.  Either way, following treatment it can take several days for symptoms to resolve.

Finally, there is a chance that your persistent symptoms could be due to trichomonas.  Rather than just confuse things further, it would be best if your partner could be tested for trich and other STDs.

Hope this helps. Try not to worry.,  EWH

Thank you for the info doctor.  Is there a test for trich in males?  Seems like its mainly a female test.

Unfortuantely, at the present time there are no very good tests for trich in men  EWH

Thanks again Doctor-very helpful info here.  One last question if its not too much trouble-is it possible to carry trich and/or chlamydia for long periods of time and not know? I believe its called a subclinical infection which has no symptoms.  I've read that these can be carried by men and women for months or longer without any symptoms

Yes, you can have them and be asymptomatic. This is true for both men and women.  EWH
