Proctitis - Anal Area Burns!

by quedor33, Oct 18, 2009 02:02PM
I'm not sure I'm posting in the correct subcategory, but after a lot of reading I'm hoping the least worse I would have is proctitis due to chlamydia but here is my story and question:

I'm a gay 33 male. Last wednesday ( oct 14) I started with a pain in the anal area 24/7. The pain is like I have a knife up there, sometimes it feels like burn, burn burn, or as if I have a 10 inch dildo up there the entire day. Then I had fever and headache wed, thursday and Friday. Any movement from standing up, sitting down, kicking makes the anal area hurt more, and I feel the anal muscle tight . I decided to go to a Colon and Rectal doc on Friday. He said I have proctitis, he immediately asked if I had sex down there. And ordered a battery of exam colonoscopy, culture, blood for this coming tuesday), he also prescribed me suppositories CANASA. So now I come home and I have been researching everything I can as I'm very worried plus the burn doesnt stop!!!! I'm still having regular bowel movements and gas, it does hurt to start, and it comes out with some mucus and no blood ( maybe very little when I wipe) .

Here is my sexual history from most recent to past:

Friday Oct 9 - I was fingered and then the guy did oral-anal on me.

About 1.5 ago my ex boyfriend ( who we practiced unsafe sex) gave me chlamydia which I only treated for my penis ( which was the only thing I thought I had to worry about) , but it's possible that we had intercourse.

About 5 yrs ago I had chlamydia or gonohrrea from oral sex  and treated for my penis.

I have noticed mucus in my stool for over a year , specially after anal sex or fingering.

QUESTIONs:

1- What could I get from this encounter on Friday oct-9 could I get herpes or chlamydia from his saliva? Should I ask him to get tested?

2- Could this bacteria been there since my ex bf gave me chlamydia 1.5 yrs ago, and why would it react now after this encounter?

3- Anything I can do between now and Tuesday to decrease the pain/burn? (The doc told me not to use Hydrocortisone that can make it worse until he knows what the cause is). But the pain is terrible!

4- I have green propolis ( natural anti inflamatory) have you heard of any enemas using this?

5- If it's from Chamydia what can I expect as far as time for the pain to go away?

6- If it's herpes what can I expect as far as time for the pain to go away?

tks

Proctitis is not a STD symptom.

Please disregard that last comment- I did not read your post very carefully and for some reason was thinking you had prostitis not proctitis..

Proctitis in gay men can be due to chlamydia, gonorrhea, or herpes. Receptive unprotected anal intercourse with an infected partner would be the most likely cause. The only way to know if one of these is causing your proctitis is by testing for them.

The doctor scheduled  bunch of exams for tuesday...if I'm really suspecting it is Chamydia...could I just go somewhere to get a quick test for that and start the proper treatment asap or do I have to wait until Tue? My lymph node is now sore and I'm afraid this bacteria will just go further and further.

How difficult and how long does it take for them to test for chlamydia?  Can I go to an emergency room and ask them to do it?

You are under a doctor's care for this. Therefore, this forum cannot offer much. An STD such as chlamydia is only a possibility at this point. Your proctitis may have nothing to do with a STD.

If your doctor suspects chlamydia, he may proactively treat you for it when you come in for testing on Tuesday (i.e. before the results come in).

I suggest that you continue to work with your doctor regarding your symptoms and medical tests.

The doctors do not monitor this forum or comment on threads- you have to go to the STD Expert forum and pay $15 to post your question.

In the interim, it might help to review previous threads where they have commented on proctitis. I've included a couple below that might be helpful.

Here is another thread from the Gastroenterology Expert forum that I found to be very informative:

Good luck and let us know how you are doing.

Hey folks...just thought I'd come back and post an update.

So i did the colonoscopy...it was a brease...i was under and didnt see or feel a thing. Then i was out for about an hour after the exam. I came back to the doc about 5 days later when the results came back just the same time that I started having bowel movements again lol ( yes it took almost a week) . He said the inflamation (inflammation) in my anus was caused by herpes and he prescribed Valcyte 900mg ...2x/day for 21 days ( luckly i have insurance, these meds are like $3,000) . The meds are strong and caused me bad heartburn and some pain in my thyroid...I did them for about a week and decided to stop...called the clinic yesterday reporting what I was feeling and they referred me to another doc that does infectuous diseases. So now I'm trying to make another appointment to take care of that...it's irritating that he couldn't just give me a lighter med...they said it's not their specialty that they are colon and rectal surgeons. Oh well....lets see what happens. For what's worth..I could have gotten herpes from my ex boyfriend over a year ago which was the only unprotected anal sex I had) OR it was from someone licking me down there a week before the amazing pain I felt. Doc says both are possibilities.  Any opinions?
