Proctitis - Cure???

by questions100, Feb 17, 2009 08:02PM
About ten years ago, my boyfriend cheated on me and called to tell me he had ghonnorea.  I immediately got treated for that and chlamydia... assuming he had given it to me.  Soon after, I developed a chronic case of cervicitis that simply would not go away.  Within a couple months I also developed proctitis.  How frustrating and ridiculous has this all turned out to be?  The cervicitis eventually just went away.  I've been tested since for std's and the results are negative.  I was told that the proctitis would just be something I would live with for the rest of my life... recently though I began reading that typically proctitis is curable if you can identify the correct bacteria causing it... very annoying.  So I don't know what to do.  I tried taking doxycycline for 21 days and actually it worked and cleared it up for probably a month or two - I felt great.  Then it came back so now I'm in the same position, not knowing what to do.  Is it probable that the proctitis was caused by ghonnorea... or somehow cervicitis?  Am I just stuck with this now for the rest of my life or is there some other antibiotic I should try?  There is no history of colitis or anything of that nature in my family.  There is no doubt this was caused by the std's followed by the cervicitis.  They all happened one right after the other.  Any suggestions or guidance you can give me would be appreciated.

Have you had any anal swabbing to see if there is any bacteria there?  That is an easy, and logical next step.
