Protected Oral with symptoms

About 7 weeks ago, I received oral sex with a condom from a prostitute.  Two days after that, I came down with sore throat, cold, and pain while urinating.  A nurse practitioner at urgent care diagnosed that as a sinus infection, and gave me a z-pack of antibiotics, saying it would clear up everything (she did not tests to diagnose this).  I was fine, then intermittently would have pain urinating (once or twice a week).  All this time there was no discharge.  A later visit (three weeks later) to PCP involved CBC and urinalysis:  all results normal.

I also began to notice red spots on my penis.  They are small, not blisters, no fluid, and from reading this forum I assumed they are only normal discoloration of the skin.  Also, based on reading here, I assumed that my protected oral sex was safe, and did not ask my doctor about STDs.

The pain during (and after) urination became constant and frequent.  I returned to my PCP for another urinalsyis.  This one found red and white blood cells.  I am now on a 10 day regimen of 500 mg of cipro twice a day while we wait for the bacterial culture of the urine and to get an ultrasound on my kidneys and bladder.  (PCP said there was no bacteria in the urine, but they were doing the culture anyway).

My questions:  Do I need to worry about STDs?  Is there a chance that a urine sample with no bacteria present will reveal bacteria to confirm an STD?  Should I ask for some other kinds of tests?

Thanks for your time.

Other people besides prostitutes have STDs, and its not really fair to categorize them as higher risk.  Sure, they have a lot of partners, but most CSWs (commercial sex workers) use protection for everything to dramatically lower their risk.

Anyone who has multiple partners has risk for STDs.

My only advice. Avoid Prostitutes. They can look all good and lovely, but they are not lovely once they give their disease. I have been with two, they were young and always used protected sex. I am not doing it again because after joining thir forum my eye are way open. Its better to masturbate watching porn than getting a disease from a prostitute.

The itching can be normal. Make sure Petroleum Jelly a little.

i would just take the UTI antibiotics and not worry about std's since you used protection.

Hi there -

I wouldn't worry about stds at all.  It sounds like you got a cold, and then a urinary tract infection.  The timing stinks, but its just a coincidence.

I wonder if you are also getting a fungal infection on your penis, and that is common after taking antibiotics.  Ask your doctor about it.
