Doc,

I'm 24 yrs. old and my friend recently confided in me that he had genital warts.  So to understand what he was going thru I did some research on HPV.  Upon research, I found out that HPV can be present on the scrotum, which caused concern for me.  I completely shave my scrotum/genital area regularly with a razor and shaving creme.  Sometimes I get bumps on my scrotum that I had always thougth were the result from shaving, ingrown hair, acne, etc.  Most bumps were hard, not wart-like and didn't bother me or itch.  I've NEVER had any bumps/warts/redness on my penis at any time.  Every person I've seen or talked to with HPV always got warts on their penis.  I've been sexually active with my girlfriend for about 6 months now and she doesn't have any visible warts or said anything to me about it and everything is going GREAT.  I had an STD check about a year ago, but have had partners before I got into my previous monogamous relationship.  Do I have cause for concern or has the recent news of my friend just scared the **** out of me?

Sebaceous cysts, and simply prominent hair follicles--which can appear as white bumps--are very common on the scrotum.  They can appear more prominent or can be irritated after shaving.  I'm pretty sure this is what you have.  I.e., a normal anatomical variant, don't lose sleep over it.
