Question about Herpes

Hello staff
I am writing is Because i had recevied one encounter of unprotected oral sex with a co-worker on March 8 2007 (10 Weeks ago or 2 months 2 weeks). i did check ups for some STD's all came out negative reason for the check ups was i had my submandibular gland alittle swollen i took antibotics my ENT Doctor gave me & they went down he said it was from lack of water. i went normal doctor & my Liver enzymes were elevated on my 1st test, higher the 2nd test, normal the 3rd test (like 5 to 6 days appart). i  had a ultrasound done my slpeen was irregular & my liver was normal but i did feel a small bother pain on the liver. then i went to a liver specialist he ask me all this question if i have been really sick like if i got MONO or anything, not that i know of. he requested another blood test to check up my enzymes level i notice i didn't get a herpes test before so he requested it. He said not to worry that it is minor it could of been a virus something like mono & went pass liver & effected my spleen & my body is passing it & didn't notice. My question is can Herpes affect your liver & spleen that way? i am worried, what are my chances of getting herpes from one encounter? I have never develope any symptoms of herpes. She (sex ancounter) said he has had small sore when she gets fever & the last one she got was over a year ago or so. she never had any sign of sores on her month.. Also can Herpes affect you Liver or Spleen?
Great job you guys are doing on this site.

what do you mean by (Also, although some initial infections with HSV cause no recognized genital symptoms, if they cause symptoms at all, typical genital symptoms usually are included.)

None of this suggests herpes, and catching HSV from a single episode of oral sex is unlikely.  Also, although some initial infections with HSV cause no recognized genital symptoms, if they cause symptoms at all, typical genital symptoms usually are included.  Therefore, there is no particular reason to suspect herpes as the cause of your liver or splenic abnormalities.

But you are under the care of a 'specialist', who apparently has requested an HSV blood test--so perhaps he has some suspicion.  (More likely you just talked him into it because of your fears.)  S/He is the person you should be asking about these things.  From your description, I have no suspicion of herpes--but the blood test will give the answer.  I cannnot.

Thanks for the thanks about the forum.  Best wishes--  HHH, MD
