Questions about HPV

by ashwin448, Jul 13, 2008 11:42PM
Hello,

I have had no symptoms about genital warts but i have had anal sex twice in the last six years and oral sex about the same number of times also. I would like to know if HPV is transmitted by oral sex even if there are no warts present and what could be the complications. I have also heard that the immmune system may eventually clear the HPV virus. How likely is that?

Is HPV transmitted by genital to hand contact if there are no warts present?

What are possible signs I should look for when HPV is present?

Can it also cause cancer and what signs and symptoms should I look for and if there are signs and symptoms how long will they take to occur?

Thanks.

Ashwin

www.ashastd.org has terrific info on hpv for more reading.

Studies have shown that most hpv infections clear themselves within 2 years.  We don't know if that means that it's completely gone from the body or not but it's at least not detectable with the means we currently have at our disposal so it's not likely you'd be able to pass it on to someone.

No obvious warts and there's no way to detect hpv in males. there is not a commercially available test for hpv in males.
