Rash on penis after sex

Rash on penis after sex

About 10 weeks ago(8/13/04), I received unprotected oral sex with a high risk partner (a stripper). About 10 days later I experienced burning during urination and one swollen lymph node on my thigh. I went and saw a urologist and was told it was mild urethritis, it would clear up on its own, and that my urine was fine.  The symptoms did go away. I am married however, and was very concerned about giving my wife something so to be 100% sure I was tested for chlam./ghon. and herpes. All were negative.  My wife and I did not have unprotected sex for 30 days (until 9/13/04). Since then we have been have had  regular sex without a condom. Last week however (10/12), one day afer sex I noticed a small red rash on the base of my penis. It was a solid red line in one of the folds of skin near the base. It was barely visible unless I stretch the skin or had an erection. It did not really burn or itch. I put tinactin on it and it went away. The next time we had sex, it came back  it the same place. I got very worried that it was an STD and went and saw a family practicioner. He said there were no blisters or sores and that it did not look like an STD. He gave me an antifungal and told me to see a derm. or urologist if it persisted. I am freaked out though because it only appears after sex.  Once again, When I stretch out my penis or it is erect, it looks like a few spaced out red lines have been drawn across it. They are not raised nor to they itch or burn much and it goes away after a few days, but returns after sex. Do you have any idea what this may be?  Is this an STD?  Thanks.

I'm sure the rash isn't an STD.  There are all kinds of minor rashes and skin irritations all over the body; if you look hard enough, minor inflammatory responses can be found very frequently.  And it sounds like this rash is so minor you wouldn't even know about it if you weren't looking especially hard in response to your anxiety about your unprotected contact.

In addition, STDs from oral sex are very rare.  Even your apparent nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) was likely a reaction to normal bacteria in the stripper's mouth and not something that would have seriously affected your health or your wife's.

But of course the final advice is the standard fallback:  If your "rash" persists, get it checked out, preferably by a dermatologist.  But in the meantime, don't worry about it either for your own health or your wife's.
