Really Bad Jock Itch Or Something Else?

Doctor,

Thank you for taking time to read my posting.

* June 10th Engaged in low risk activity, female CSW performed unprotected ******* for a few moments. The contact was brief and she only performed oral on the top 1/2 portion of my erect penis.
* CSW stated she was clean, and that I shouldnt' be worried. She stated that she should be the one worried, not me.
* For next 7 days, as this was a low risk behavior, just checked myself every couple of days for bumps or sores, everything was fine. Did not (and do not) experience any discomfort during urination.

Issue
* Friday 7th, experience redness and itchiness after shaving groin area. Also noticed two bumps in skin fold area.
* I believe this either from shaving or jock itch as 1.) I work out a lot 2.) I sweat extensively 3.) The irritation was in the a.) scrotum and b.) skin fold (scrotom and shaft area).
* Unfortunately on Saturday, the scratching got the better of me, even after applying hydocortisone.
* Sunday June 20th, notice a small sore (top of skin off, very superficial) where the I itched extensively, as if I scratched some skin off. It is no more than 1 mm big)

FYI: I have a history of eczema

Doctor my questions...
* Do you believe I have an STD
* If not,  Should I just apply anti bacertial ointment, hydrotisone, and NOT itch?

Let me know

Thanks!

So I assumed.  Sorry about MedHelp's overly conservative language software.

Welcome back to the STD forum.

No STD causes the sort of genital area irritation, redness, and itching like this.  Your description is entirely consistent with a local fungal infection (jock itch) or other superficial infection, such as staph/strep, a condition called erythrasma, or simply nonspecific irritation due to exercise, sweating, etc.

I recommend local hygiene only, i.e. wash with soap and water twice daily, dry well, and use a drying powder like talcum powder or cornstarch in your underware.  If that doesn't start to clear things up in 2-3 days, you could try an over-the-counter preparation for jock itch, like Lamisil or any of the other products you'll find on the same shelves of the pharmacy.  (Hydrocortisone usually is a mistake, because it makes fungal infections worse, not better.)  If these measures don't clear it up, see a health care provider for professional evaluation.

Since this obviously isn't an STD and that's the only topic for this forum, I won't have any further comments after this reply (unless you see a health professional who suspects an STD after all).  Also, for future reference please note that MedHelp permits a maximum of 2 questions every 6 months on each of the professionally moderated forums (see Terms and Conditions) and this is your second.  A word to the wise so you don't risk losing your posting fee on another question that would be deleted without response.

Regards--  HHH, MD
