Receipt of Unprotected Oral Sex

by John8, Jun 20, 2009 02:35PM
I am a male late 30's. I received unprotected oral sex from 2 different escorts on 6/16 and 6/179each time like 5 minutes or less).  On 6/16, I also had a mild sore throat and a runny nose which increased a little more on 6/17-6/19, but still not that severe. I am thinking that was a cold.  I know oral sex is low risk, I have read a lot of your responses on this forum, but I am paranoid.

At this point, if anything, I am suspecting NGU.  I have no burning sensations during peeing.  I have been so paranoid that I check myself almost every 30 minutes.  On 6/19, after peeing and leaving the bathroom, I went back like 5 minutes later and saw a drip or two discharge, not sure if it is left over from peeing or what you refer to as a discharge to to NGU.  It was not sticky and it was clear, looks very much like pee.  Today, I noticed it again, also within a few minutes of peeing.  I cant say there is discomfort on the tip of my penis.  It may be very slight irritation, but it is not reddish. I even tried to stretch the opening of the urethra and it does not appear red inside. It appears normal color. I pee a lot, but that is not ubnormnal as I drink a lot of water.

I read that NGU could be caused by the common cold virus. I am paranoid that kissing the escort may have transfered my common cold virus to her and then when she performed oral sex she gave it back to me.  I know I am HSV 1 positive so that rules that out as the cause of NGU.  Should I be concerned I may have NGU? If so and it is caused by the common cold virus, will azithromycin clear it or will it clear on its own? Shoule I get tested? If so, when? Thx

Thanks for your question.  You already have looked at past responses so I will not go over the STD risks which relate to receipt of oral sex.  I do have several comments which may be of interest to you but the bottom line is I would encourage you to go on and get checked.  You are clearly anxious about what is going on and to be honest, your repeated self examination is likely to do more harm than good.  I suspect the "discharge " you describe is likely to be residual urine and not STD.

You are correct that some of the "cold" viruses which circulate inthe community can cause urethral irritation.  The way this occurs is not be transfer to your urethra such as through the kissing prior to oral sex that you mention but through circulation of the viruses in your body.  The idea that ANY infectious agent could be picked up and then transferred through a kiss followed by oral sex, while often asked about on this forum has no data to support it.  In fact the data if anything suggest that this does not happen.

Hope these comments help.  I would advise that you get tested.  If the tests are negative, relax and believe the results.  If the tests are positive, that will guide your therapy.  Hope this helps.  EWH

If I go get tested Monday, would that be too soon? What do you recommend I get tested for, just NGU and Goner?  You did not answer my question about in the event ngu is caused by the common cold virus, will it clear itself or will azithromycin work with it? thx

No, testing at any time more than 48-72 hors will be reliable.

The testing you need for the expsoure you describe is for NGU and gonorrhea.

If your urethral irritation is due to a cold virus, it waill clear on it its own without therapy. EWH

Thanks. One last question, do I have to worry at all about HSV-2? I reas in one of the responses by Dr. HHH that there is no risk of HSV2 for a male receiving oral from a female? Is that true?  Thanks

by Edward W Hook, MD, Jun 22, 2009 06:49PM
Correct.  ORal HSV-2 is quite rare and even in persons who have it it is almost never transmitted.  No need for concnern.  EWH

I got swab tested and the doctor said he sees a high bacteria level, but he did not think it was an STD, he did not call it ngu either.  Out of precaution, he gave me 1.5 g zpack which I took all at once.  Suffered diarhea (diarrhea) the following day which I know is a side effect.  Was good for about a week.  Now, occasionally I feel minor discomfort in my testicles, but almost everytime that happens, I end passing gas which leads me to believe it could be just my stomach acting up as I have a weak stomach.  Once or twice I felt itching on the tip of my penis. Went back to the Doctor who performed just a physical and visual check and he said he sees nothing.  Do I need to worry and get retested. Thx.

Forgot, one last thing

I got tested for Gonerhea, and waiting for results, but if I had it would the 1.5g z pack have taken care of it? Thanks

The recommended dose os azithromycin for gonorrhea treatment is 2.0 g but it is likely that 1.5 grams would cure most gonorrhea (which, I repeat, it is unlikely that you have).  EWH
