Recurring non-genital, non-oral herpetic rash

by bslevy3477, Oct 18, 2009 12:46PM
For about 4 or 5 years now I continually get a really annoying herpetic rash.  I did get a doctor to break the sores and the test came back positive for herpes type 1.  It always occurs on the right side of my body on either the inner arm about 10 cm from my armpit or the back of my thigh always in the same general area.  The infection is usually about 3 cm across and 1-2 cm in height in a sort of oval shape.  It starts with a slight pain at the sight, then a raised red bumpy rash occurs, then little white puss filled sores, then gone.  I use a acyclovir cream and full cycle is usually 3 days. I'm convinced that it occurs when I don't get enough sleep or if drink alcohol but sometimes it just seems random.  I could get as much as 6 infections in 1 month or as few as 0.  The doctor just prescribed Famvir to me and I took it during the last occurrence and it seemed to make the infection go away more quickly.

My goal is to make these infections less frequent, each incident is never really that bad, but when it occurs 3 times in a week it is really really annoying.

Is there anything I can do? or ask my doctor for to help minimize the occurrences?

Thanks.
