Redness and bump on tip of penis

Redness and bump on tip of penis

Exactly 43 days ago I developed a redness around the tip (opening of my penis). This occurred a couple of days after my last sexual encounter with a female. I had unprotected oral sex but wore a condom during intercourse. This was the first time I wore a condom in about 3 and 1/2 years because I was in a monogamous relationship. I started feeling a mild buring sensation and then a tingeling that seemed to alternate. The redness developed around the opening of the penis with occasional swelling. I've been tested for STDs (all were negative) and my urine was negative. My Dr. perscribed LOTRIMIN. I've also used BACITRACIN which seemed to elimated the burning and tingling. I don't have any discharge except for a small amount (a drop) of water like fluid that appeared at the tip of the penis...only when I would milk it(which hasn't appeared for some time). The right side of the opening is where the swelling or bump appears. There is a small round whitish something under the swelling or bump. It can only be seen when I stretch the skin or when I'm erect. I don't experience a burning sensation when urinating nor have I developed any red bumps or other visible lesions. Around the left side of the redness is a very light discoloration under the skin and a noticable discolored line leading from the opening and stops at the end of the head. The swelling or bump does seem to change in size and appearance over the course of the day...possibly due to my activity level. In addition, I have briefly felt a acking or some other sensation like a stiffing tube in the penis. What can this be ?

As I have said many times on the forum, an online doctor who only has a verbal description of symptoms cannot compete with a knowledgable health care provider who has actually examined someone.  Conceivably you have herpes or nongonococcal urethritis NGU, but I doubt it.  It doesn't sound serious, and it doesn't sound like anything that would respond to lotrimin (an anti-yeast preparation) or bacitracin (which fights bacteria).  Most likely just normal anatomical variations.  Your other symptoms sound like they may be more related to anxiety than a physical problem.

If you aren't confident your own doctor is on the right track or doing the right tests, ask to see a dermatologist.  But in the meantime, stop fretting; it doesn't sound like anything serious is going on.

Good luck--   HHH, MD

To me, that sounds like Thrush (a yeast infection). Although this is more common in women than in men, men can certainly get it too, and the most common symptoms are itching and burning at the tip of the penis, and a red rash.
The microbe which causes yeast infections is a fungus, and both the medications you were prescribed are treatments for fungal infections.

Is the fluid which comes out of your penis different from your normal pre-ejaculate fluid (pre come)? As far as I know, there isn't a discharge associated with yeast infections in men.

Sometimes yeast infections are trigged by irritation to the penis - was the condom you used treated with nonoxynol -9? Did you use a new lubricant?

The treatment of thrush in men is to apply the antifungal cream or ointment twice a day, and to keep the penis scrupulously clean.

You shouldn't use soap or scented products on or near your penis though, particularly while it is in this condition. Wash with plenty of clean water, as often as practical.

If the symptoms haven;t gone in a week, or if they get worse at any time, you should go back to your doctor.

No, its not like precum...its more like water. I thought it might be remance of urine. My Dr. perscribed Lotrumin for a possible fungil infection, but I've been using the Lotrumin for about a month and no changes.
