There are no resistent strains of Chlamydia. The meds you have taken are effective for it`s treatment. Several possibilities exist that may explain your symptoms. One is , if you are still having unprotected sex you may be having reoccurent reinfections, or you may have NGU, or you may have prostatitis. I believe your first test may have been a false negative and the second test was correct. Also it is possible to still test positive for several weeks after treatment. I recommend you abstain from sex, or use condoms and continue to follow your Doctor`s advice. Take.p
thanks for your response... I was only having sex after i went to the doctor originally and the urine test came back negative, actually there were three separate test. The sex was also with another person not the one I think was infected.
The last test a swab test about a month ago tested positive and since then the symptoms have persisted, sometimes feeling as if they are going away but still on occasion there. I was treated with all meds that should have cured it then but still today have symptoms. What is NGU and if I have prostatitis, which i think is or can be Chlamydia in the prostate then will the drugs still work after an extended does. It seems like I have been on enough antibiotics to kill an elephant but not Chlamydia.
At this time I am on Lavaquin this is the 4th day.
thank you
Michael
NGU is an infection in the urethra that's not gonorrhea or chlamydia.
You need to do some testing to find out if you still have chlamydia. I would doubt that you do, and that you just have some inflammation in the prostate. The levaquin can help, though. After you are done this dose, wait a couple of weeks, and test again.
thank you
Like i said i have only tested positive with the chlamydia about a month ago and have taken a months supply of doxycycline and now onto the levaquin only because the symptoms persist. Four days of the drug and still there.
I read online that prostatitis, if i have this which at this point seems like it has to be that could take a few months or medication to treat if it can be treated at all.
I will wait a week or two and see how i feel.. Do I have to stop medication to be tested for chlamydia if so why is this?
thanks
Yes, because the antibiotics could slow the growth of the bacteria enough to not show on a test. Its not terribly likely it could happen, but it could.
