Resitant Claymidia

by Michaelfire, Sep 24, 2008 09:19PM
I had unprotected sex about 4 months ago and developed an itching the next day in my penis. I went to my urologist withing the week. He took a urine sample and gave doxycycline for a week about. I called him near the end of the medication still with this symptom. My urine test came back negative. He prescribed azithromycin for i think 14 days. near the end i still had the same symptoms. I went in for another urine test results negative again, prescribed ciprofloxacin for a week about.
I took one more urine test, testing for trich, this also was negative. I went to an STD clinic told them history and symptoms, which had changed and increased, tingling,, itchy, urgency to urinate on occasion and some stinging.
They did a few swabs on me. gave me flagyl and then a one dose of azithromycin. Still no end to symptoms.
The results came back and it was positive for Claymidia.. They told me to go back to my urologist and tell him it may be in the prostate.
The prostate and Urethra was checked with a scope looked fine, he gave me a months supply of doxycycline near the end of it, still some symptoms. I just went to a new urologist and he has given me a 6 week supple of Laviquin.
he said it has deep penetrating qualities. He called today and thinks I should stop after a week and be retested. I was skeptical of this due to the fact that if i still have symptoms I'm sure it would still be there. It has only been a month since i tested positive. I told him i would see how i felt at the end of the week and get back to him.
Frustrated obviously by the initial misdiagnoses and the apparent resistant claymidia.
I have posted on this site through this whole process and received good advice from a doctor. they recommend a sensitivity test on the claymidia but so far none of the three places I have gone too do this test.
Any help would be appriciated.
thank you
Michael

I think you do need to be retested.  If you are negative now, and still have symptoms, they might change your meds.  Its a start, anyway.

There are no resistent strains of Chlamydia. The meds you have taken are effective for it`s treatment. Several possibilities exist that may explain your symptoms. One is , if you are still having unprotected sex you may be having reoccurent reinfections, or you may have NGU, or you may have prostatitis. I believe your first test may have been a false negative and the second test was correct. Also it is possible to still test positive for several weeks after treatment. I recommend you abstain from sex, or use condoms and continue to follow your Doctor`s advice. Take.p

thanks for your response... I was only having sex after i went to the doctor originally and the urine test came back negative, actually there were three separate test. The sex was also with another person not the one I think was infected.
The last test a swab test about a month ago tested positive and since then the symptoms have persisted, sometimes feeling as if they are going away but still on occasion there. I was treated with all meds that should have cured it then but still today have symptoms.  What is NGU and if I have prostatitis, which i think is or can be Chlamydia in the prostate then will the drugs still work after an extended does. It seems like I have been on enough antibiotics to kill an elephant but not Chlamydia.
At this time I am on Lavaquin this is the 4th day.
thank you

NGU is an infection in the urethra that's not gonorrhea or chlamydia.

You need to do some testing to find out if you still have chlamydia.  I would doubt that you do, and that you just have some inflammation in the prostate.  The levaquin can help, though.  After you are done this dose, wait a couple of weeks, and test again.

To: auntiejessi-Anyone
thank you
Like i said i have only tested positive with the chlamydia about a month ago and have taken a months supply of doxycycline and now onto the levaquin only because the symptoms persist.  Four days of the drug and still there.
I read online that prostatitis, if i have this which at this point seems like it has to be that could take a few months or medication to treat if it can be treated at all.
I will wait a week or two and see how i feel.. Do I have to stop medication to be tested for chlamydia if so why is this?
thanks

Yes, because the antibiotics could slow the growth of the bacteria enough to not show on a test.  Its not terribly likely it could happen, but it could.
