Ringworm like fungus below belly button and scratch like mark on penis

by RBrunisma, Dec 03, 2004 12:00AM
For some time my husband has had like a ringworm fungus right below his bellybutton and then it travels to the back of his butt upper and lower then travels to the pevlvic area between his legs and near and around the shaft of his penis. We have used all the different sprays and ointments and this eases it some. My concern is that recently he had a scratch like mark on the top upper side of the penis. When he showed it to me he said
it started from tow bumps he thought. However being in my fifties I said it look like a friction mark or irritation of some sort from sex.It appeared to me that it was irritation and my question is how long before a scratch forms ascabon it. If we had sex on Saturday would the scab still be there after a shower. Is their something going on here? Is there something I need to be tested for? He refuses to go to the dr. and says he will take care of it but I am concern for him and myself. The ringworm fungus does not go away.
Thank You for your Time.

There is nothing in your description of your husband's rash etc to make me think he has an STD.  It's probably more likely that his fungal infection itched and he scratched it himself, perhaps unconsciously or during sleep.  You know your husband and I don't.  If you have other reasons to suspect he is having sex with someone else, you'll need to decide whether and how to deal with it.  But I wouldn't base that decision on his skin condition(s).

As to his ringworm, has he seen a health care provider?  If not, or if it was a long time ago and he hasn't been rechecked lately, he should see family doctor or a dermatologist.  Almost all rashes like you describe can be easily treated and controlled; the ointments and sprays he is trying on his own might be doing as much harm as good.

Good luck--   HHH, MD
