I engaged in some less than stellar behavior recently. I've gone through many of these threads and I'm guessing you'll think my worry is far outstripping the reality of my situation, but I would still like your opinion for some peace of mind.
I felt guilty immediately and had terrible anxiety that I would pass something to my wife who is almost 7 months pregnant. I spoke with a doctor friend of mine who thought my risk was minimal but proscribed doxycyclineDoxycycline Doxycycline hyclate Doxycycline monohydrate (100mg 2x a day and 1 dose of suprax). I got tested 11 days after the exposure (before I started the antibiotics) and everything came back negative (Herpes, Hepatitis, Syphilis, Ghonorrhea, Chlamydia). NGU was not specifically tested.
I know that you've said in repeated posts that there is no risk from protected oral but with a baby in utero I'm not only ashamed of what I did but nervous about passing something along.
So my questions are:
1. What are the STDs I could have been at risk for?
2. Of those STDs which can I eliminate as a possibility from a negative test at 11 days?
3. Should I get tested for NGU because of the slight burning?
4. Will the antibiotics I'm taking also knock out NGU?
5. After I've completed the antibiotics, is there a reason to retest for any STD that has a longer incubation period (e.g. Syphilis) or to confirm that anything I may have picked up is gone? If so, how long should I wait?
This is not the Dr's form, this is the STD community. I will try to help with answers.
1. You had protected oral sex so none really. But STD's you can get from oral are gonnohrea, syphillis and NGU. Gon and NGU are the most common of the STD but it is low risk for oral and protected oral is almost no risk.
2. I do not know for sure
3. I can't say for sure
4. I don't think it will but I am not sure
5. Your tests are negative so you are good.
Plus you had protected oral sex, really no risk. Unprotected is low risk.
You had protected oral. This makes an already low risk situation much lower.
Your only chances of an std would be syphilis and genital herpes type 1. Syphilis is uncommon in the US, and if you have ever had a cold sore, then you have herpes type 1, and therefore probably won't ever get it genitally, especially if the woman didn't have any oral sores.
The doxy would cure NGU, and will probably thwart a developing syphilis infection if you had one.
I'm with your doctor - I don't see cause for worry here. If the burning gets worse or doesn't improve, see your doctor again, but my guess is that the cause would be non-std related. You should also make sure you are drinking plenty of water.
One final thought - I continue to have slight discomfort/tingling in the tip of my penis, although it seems to be fading. I know it's almost definitely not NGU based on the doctor's opinion but if this were an NGU symptom, would it go away on its own, or continue to get worse?
