STD Infection Possibility

Hello Dr.  I did something stupid last week on Friday 07/22, got drunk at a bar & went home w this 35 yr old women. We had unprotected sex.We were both really drunk. We talked about what we did & she told me not to worry regarding stds.I live with my gf & have already slept w her twice trusting this person.I wanted to wait for testing but it was difficult since I live w her.I talk to this woman everyday just to make me feel better. She still insists not to worry.2 days ago I started to feel itchy tingly inside my eurethra, inside penis. From time to time I feel lower abdominal cramps & tenderness. The itchy feeling does tend to go away, then get worse at times.I got so worryed that I went to my Dr. yesterday. He looked inside & said everything looked normal.Didn't want to give me meds since he felt I didn't have anything.Tested me for Clam, Gon, & Syph. Will get results next week.I'm worried about Herpes, and other STDs.

I looked at it closely with a light and it has a very tiny white tip.

Actually it's completely gone now.  It was just a swollen/irrated gland on the head of my penis.  I've actually had this before.  I'm not going to the Dr. because there's nothing to show now. Sorry again Dr. and thanks again for the great work.

Thanks again Dr.  I really appreciate the response.  The bump is now barely visible and almost gone. I know that I need to stop observing myself and that herpes doesn't react this way.  Thanks again and sorry for the anxiety driven behavior.  I will follow your advice.

No, this obviously is not herpes.  Probably a pimple.

Re-read all my replies and comments above and pay close attention.  Then see your doctor again if you remain concerned.  This forum is not a substitute for direct medical care and cannot help you further.  If you keep returning with anxiety-driven questions, the entire thread will be deleted.  And do not attempt to start a new thread with the same questions; it would also be deleted without response (and without refund of the posting fee).

I aired it out and the dark redness went away.  It looks like a darker pink now.  I stretched it out and looks solid like one of my glands on the head of my penis.  Is it possible that I just irrated my gland since I've been analyzing and touching it too much.  Especially with not so clean hands at times.  What are the signs to look for regarding herpes.  Should I see a Dr. tomorrow?

I just got a red bump on my penis head.  It's a single red bump, slightly raised.  It doesn't hurt, itch or bother.  It almost seems like a my gland is irratated.  Could this be a sign of herpes.  Isn't it kind of late for the first outbreak.  It's pretty dark red.  Wouldn't it be in clusters and painful.

I decided to post my test results since I've noticed most don't post them and there are some disgruntled readers.  I received my results and tested negative for Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Syphillis, and HIV.  The last time I did an HSV2 test was early this year in January.  I didn't do one now since I haven't been at risk until now but know would have to wait 2 months and a half from now for it to be valid. Goes to show how focused anxiety can make you sick.

Would you recommend I get an HSV2 test 2 and half months from now Dr.?

Glad to have helped.

Eradicating chlamydia and other STDs:  Only a few infectious disesases have ever been eradicated:  smallpox is one, and we're close on polio.  Both of those required highly effective vaccines, and there are no vaccines (nor will there be soon) for chlamydia, gonorrhea, herpes, etc.  No STD has ever been eradicated, nor will be.  In order for that to happen without a vaccine, every infected person (millions in this country alone) would have to be identified and treated, more or less at the same time; and not have sex for several weeks or months while the testing and treatment program were being implicmented.  Think about it.

Well I did just what you said.  I took a shower and cleared my head.  I calmed down and it tingling, itching is completely gone.  Just like it was after I saw my Dr. yesterday.  I guess it is all in my head.  Goes to show what the power of the mind can do.  I could have swore it was itching and burning in there.  It doesn't make sense that this itching and burning would be off and on just like this if indeed there was an infection.  Thanks again.

Just out of curiousity.  Why can't for example Chlamydia be erradacated? Can't the current people that have it just be stopped from spreading it, cured and done?  Or does this bacteria live elsewhere and regenerate?

Oops.  Sorry. I guess I was so stressed that I didn't read the above response.  Thanks again Dr.

So I guess if I had caught something the itchiness would have been accompanied by discharge or pain correct?  So you feel my test results next week will be negative then?

And I absolutely agree you must stop examining yourself, either by looking in your urethra or squeezing your penis in a search for discharge.  If you do it often enough and vigorously enough, you could even create a meaningless discharge that would inflame your anxieties further.

Once again, you provide evidence of a wise physician who understands both STDs and the importance of genitally focused anxeity in creating or magnifying symptoms.  Stick with him.  And try to mellow out.  Don't confuse your stress and anxiety over a sexual encounter you regret with any other health outcome, such as an STD.  The latter is very unlikely.

Welcome to the forum.

Most sexually active women are pretty attuned to their bodies, and in any case STDs are quite uncommon in people in their thirties -- so your recent partner's reassurance probably is valid.  My guess is your urethral/penile itching is primarily psychological, i.e. your anxieties about these events making you notice otherwise trivial body sensations.  As you seem to know (according to the comment below), abence of discharge is pretty good evidence there isn't a urethral infection.

However, you were smart to seek care about it -- and it sounds like you found a wise doctor who is knowledgeable about STDs.  Many docs would treat patients like you, either spontaneously or at the patient's request -- which is almost always a mistake.  Your doc is doing exactly what I would have recommended:  test and wait for the results.  I would have recommended exactly the same tests your doctor did, and would not have recommended testing for HSV in this circumstance.  There is no realistic chance your symptoms are due to herpes and the transmission risk for HSV from any single sexual encounter like this is very low.

So stay mellow as you await the test results.  I predict negative results and that the urethral itching will fade.

Regards--  HHH, MD

I also wanted to comment that my Dr. thinks it's all in my head and that I'm irratating it by opening the eurethra from time to time to check on it.  I have been so stressed and have extreme anxiety over this.

I forgot to mention that I don't have discharge, nor pain or problems urinating. That's why the doc didn't give me any medication. I wish he did thought cause i feel like i have something.
