STD RISK FROM GENITAL CONTACT

I recently (8days ago) visited a "massage parlor". My masseuse was a young, healthy looking european girl. There was no penetration or oral sex during this massage HOWEVER, there was direct genital contact. I was on my back, she was massaging my chest, stomach, penis and testicles with liberal amounts of baby oil. During this, without underwear on, she sat briefly but directly on the base of my penis and the top of my testicles. Her naked vagina was resting directly on the base of my penis. There was no fluid exchange, I had no open sores, and I dont think the head of my penis touched her genitals. I am not so worried about HIV, chlamydia or gonorrhea...correctly I hope?

My main concern lies with herpes, HPV, syphilis, crabs and warts. Contact was very brief, but definitely skin to skin. The room was quite well lit and I'm sure I would have noticed any sores or lesions on her genitals, but I did not see anything. She did have 2 small sores, one just below her breast and one on her middle-back. She pointed these out as soon as she was naked and said "I got bitten by a spider I think!"

My symptoms at this stage are largely anxiety based. I have no visible symptoms, and the minor itching and burning I have in the genital area can probably be explained away as hypochondria.

Please, what are my risks here? It would be worth noting that this girl offered me a full-sexual service for 4 times what I was paying, so it is safe to say that she is not just a "masseuse"...if her being a sex-worker increases my risk?

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou.

Welcome to our Forum.  You are correct that your partner falls into a high risk category.  High risk however is a relative term and this does not by any means that all or even the majority of women working as masseuses or as commercial sex workers have STDS. The fact is that most do not.  Furthermore, no penetration, no risk for gonorrhea, chlamydia or HIV.

So what about herpes HPV/Warts and crabs.  You state she had no visible lesions and this makes it unlikely that she had syphilis or active herpes.  Herpes can still be passed if she had HSV and no lesions but it is relatively uncommon following a single exposure and if this had occurred, you would be expected to develop HSV lesions in 4-10 days so with each passing day it becomes less and less likely that you got HSV as well.

As far as HPV is concerned, she probably had HPV and so do you even though you probably did not get it from her.  For better or worse, at present HPV is a "fact of life" and most people have it or will have it at some point in the future.  HPV is the most commonly acquired STD.  Over 85% of sexually active women will have HPV infection at some time in their lives.  The figure for men is less well studied but similar.   In some HPV will cause genital warts, in others it will not cause warts but may lead to changes in PAP smears (women only)  In nearly everyone who gets HPV, warts or otherwise, the infections will resolve by themselves without therapy in 8-24 months.   For men, other than the inconvenience and potential transmissibility of warts, there is little risk of any sort.

Crabs.  Just not likely.

My guess, you did not get anything.  I would not worry and I would not suggest specific testing unless you develop any symptoms of an STD.  EWH

1.  No 8 days is too early for a blood test for syphilis to be positve. The average time to a positve test for syphilis is 21 days.
2.  It would be most unusual to catch herpes or syphilis through your fingers in the manner you describe.  Your peeling skin does not suggest an STD.
3.  Final comment of your skin rash- this is not an STD

Take care.  EWH

This just gets worse...there was also a small burn blister on the back of my second knuckle of the fingers I touched her with. Again, I am sure this blister did not come in to contact with her skin at any time, but I cannot be 100% certain I guess...paranoia?

Thankyou for your insight. If its ok, I would just like to ask a couple more things of you?

I went to a sexual health clinic today and had blood and urine samples taken for syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia. If I had contracted syphilis from the girl mentioned above, would 8 days be sufficient time for the test to pick it up?

Also, I forgot to mention before that I touched this girls vagina briefly with my fingers...enough contact that I could smell her on my finger tips immediately afterwards, but I think I only touched her with the flats of my finger tips. Now, I have a small wart (I have always had the odd wart or 2 on my hands) at the base of my index finger on that same hand. 3 days ago a small section of skin started to peel away next to that wart. Since then, and especially in the last 24hours, this peeling skin has spread down and across my palm towards the heel of my hand. It is painless, it does not itch, it is not red or weeping any fluids. It appears to be a single layer of skin peeling off in small blister-like sections, and the skin underneath is pink and new looking. My concern is that this started so soon after touching this girl with the fingers on this same hand, the fact I've never had peeling palms like this before, and the proximity to the wart...I have no idea whether warts are considered open skin? Is there a danger of catching anything else this way? Can I contract syphilis or herpes through my fingers?

I am a chef and this hand is constantly coming into contact with boiling water, steam and hot objects. I'm hoping that this peeling skin is just from too much hot moisture and the suddenly dry winter environment, but I need to be sure!!!

Presumably if ths syphilis test will pick up an 8day old infection, then I will know shortly anyway. But I just wanted to ask.

Thankyou very much in advance, and sorry for rambling on!

Matt
