STD test results

by Rock88, Mar 19, 2008 08:51AM
I recently got tested for STD's.  I got the results back and everything was negative.  However, now I am worried that the results may have been inaccurate.  I got tested about one week after the sexual contact and I was taking doxycline before the sex and about one week after the std testing.  Now I am having mild pain in penis towards the tip.  Please help.

The only test results that are not accurate yet are Herpes and HIV. HIV takes 6+ weeks to get a relatively accurate result. Herpes can take 3-4 months. However, 50% of herpes positive results show up in 3-4 weeks.

Actually, the doxy (or any other antibiotic) could have given you a false negative result on the chlamydia and gonorrhea tests.

The other tests might not be accurate because you haven't waited the appropriate time.  That's ok though.  At least you have a baseline for them, and know you weren't infected before.

HIV can take up to 3 months, syphilis can take up to a month, herpes can take up to 4 months.  For all of these, you might show positive before that time frame, but a week is pretty fast.  Gonorrhea and chlamydia would show in a week, if you weren't on the antibiotics.

What dose of doxy are you taking?

I was taking one 100mg pill daily two days before my trip and then twice a day afterwards for a week.

That would cure chlamydia anyway, so you wouldn't have to worry about that one.

It won't cure gonorrhea though.
