Ok thank you so much Dr. Hook
When condoms fail it is obvious, they do not leak "a little". If you condom appeared intact, it was. Please relax. This thread needs to end. EWH
Or even in that case of condos breaking, it is still unlikely/rare?
Ok. I didn't check the condom after, but I'm pretty sure it didn't break.
Do you know the likelihood of condoms breaking? If a condom does break, would you then recommend getting tested?
Not that you need it, a 4th generation HIV test will provide defintive answers at 4 weeks and a standard antibody test will be conclusive at 8 weeks. EWH
Hi Doctor, thank you for your answers. If I just wanted peace of mind on HIV, how long would I have to wait to get an accurate test/results?
Welcome to our Forum. I'll be pleased to comment. The exposure that you mention was very low risk. Most commercial sex workers do not have STIs and if she did, most exposures to infected partners do not lead to infection. Further, condom protected sex is safe sex was little or no realistic risk for STIs, including HIV.
That leaves your receipt of unprotected oral sex. Few STIs are acquired from receipt of oral sex. There are no cases of HIV which have been proven to have been acquired through oral sex. The major risks from receipt of oral sex are gonococcal or non-gonococcal urethritis, both of which are typically symptomatic within 10 days of exposure- thus your absence of symptoms is another good indicator that you did not get an STI from the encounter you have described. Herpes occurs but is uncommon after such encounters and when it occurs, infected persons typically develop signs and symptoms of infection within 14 days of exposure. We recommend against blood tests for herpes in these situations- the tests are rarely positive in persons who do not have symptoms and when they are, many of the results are falsely positive and the person does not actually have herpes.
In answer to your specific questions:
1. If she saw another person right before me, and he had herpes or something else and sucked on her breasts, could I have caught something from sucking on her breasts after?
STIs are not acquired through kissing or sucking a partner's breasts, even if the same person was just with another partner.
2. Is it possible to get HIV from any of the activities we did, in particular the unprotected oral? Should I get tested?
See above, you are not at risk for HIV from receipt of oral sex or condom protected sex as long as the condom was worn throughout the encounter.
3. Same question, but for herpes and any other STDs. Should I get tested for these too?
I see no need for herpes testing and actually recommend against it. Similarly, I see little need for testing or any sort at this time. If you are nervous, the main testing I would suggest is a urine or penile swab for gonorrhea and NGU.
I hope these comments are helpful to you. EWH
