Several infections over the past couple of years

2 years ago after oral amd unprotected sex I got sick 2-3 days after. I came down with a sore throat, swollen glands, white discharge in the back of the throat as well as sweats and it closed up my throat.  I was scared to death I had contracted HIV.  Over the next 10 months I had 3 HIV tests and at 10 months had my last test which was still negative (ELISA) and PCR RNA test at 6 weeks which was negative. I stupidly did this while with the same person who I am still with.  Over this time Ive been diagnosed with HSV1 and then Gardnerella (right after), then Strep B, Lactobacillus (sp?) and Ureaplasma (UU) infections (UU would not go away with several different antibiotics until I took Azithromycin but then came back and is still present because the antibiotic now makes me ill and my dr says the UU is just normal now and colonized and refuses to prescribe any other antibiotics).
I had regular candida infections which my dr prescribed fluconazole for a few times over the years which I suspect is from the overuse of antibiotics and now I have candida glabrata as of earlier this year which my dr has only prescribed my fluconazole for (I know from reading on this it is not the correct treatment and am visiting my dr soon to discuss.  I've heard with the candida glabrata it usually affects immunicompromized people which scares me more.

With the HSV1 I had no outbreak on my lips just throat ulcers with white discharge. My question is why would I be contracting all of these infections after this happened?  I've never had this many infections in my life only BV before and yeast infection (rarely).  My drs have put me on probably 10-15 antibiotics over the past 2 years to treat these infections.  Is there a chance I'm HIV positive even though the tests came back negative?  I've seen an infectious disease dr who said I needed to get another test done after 12 months but I have read this isn't the case.

I just got sick and recently went to the dr to get another HIV test because I have been worried about this. My boyfriend has been very understanding after this happened but now I'm scared the tests were wrong and now that I'm sick (just a cold or flu) that this will affect the test results since I have read if you are sick it can cause a false positive result.
I should add my boyfriend has been tested for HIV and was negative earlier this year but we have only had sex a handful of times over this period of time and mostly oral because of my lingering fear of HIV and the fear of passing the UU to him and has tested negative for this. He just had an outbreak recently with cold sores so I'm worried that if I do have HIV I gave it to him at the same time and there wasn't much time after this that he got checked for HIV so it wouldn't show up yet.  Can you please let me know if the infections could be caused by the overuse of antibiotics or if I should worry still about HIV?  None of this seems normal.  Thank you very much.

Welcome to our Forum.  Hearing about your experience saddens me.

You do not have HIV and do not need further testing related to your exposure 2 years ago.

Further, you have been over treated with antibiotics you did not need for non-infections.  Many of the organisms you mention, including gardnerella, Group B strep, lactobacillus and even Ureaplasmas are NORMAL parts of the body's microbial make-up which typically are very, very difficult to eradicate with antibiotics.  Group B strep is a problem for pregnant women as they can transmit it to their children at the time of birth but even then the bacteria do no harm to the woman.  Gardnerella and lactobacilli are normal parts of the vaginal flora, as is ureaplasma although in RARE instances ureaplasma has caused infection.

Further, the multiple antibiotics you have taken have led to recurring yeast infections finally leading to your Candida glabrata (if you treat repeatedly with fluconazole, something resistant to the fluconazole will grow- you need different therapy – I’d try nystatin.)

As for you bone and joint pain, I do not know that this is in any way related to your exposure or the organisims you have described.  I hope these comments will be helpful to you. EWH

I forgot to also add that twice I've had extreme bone/ joint pain in my arms and wrists which was unbearable. This happened twice once about 4 to 5 months after then exactly a year later. I had this checked but they couldn't figure out what caused it and hasn't happened again.
