Shiny Red Spots on Head of Penis

by Fins11, May 24, 2008 09:15AM
Hey Doc,

I have two shiney red spots on the head of my penis. They do not itch or burn, and they are flat. Sometimes the spots dry up and start to peel. However, once the layer of skin falls off, the shiny red spots are still there, as if nothing had changed. I've had them now for about 3 months.

I saw a general physician about a month ago and he tested me for the major STDs. He said he didn't think it was an STD, but said if it was it looked the closest to syphaylis. So he perscribed me with Doxycycle until the results came back. The results came back negative, and told me he thought it was some type of fungus. He gave me a cream called Ketoconazole, which I used for about three weeks, but it didn't have any affect. It still looks the same and it's been almost three months.

Have you ever heard of this before? What do you think it is? What can I do? Is there a specific type of Doctor I should see? Maybe a Dermotologist?

Please help me. I have no idea what to do about it at this point. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You.

Hi there -

You should google molluscum to see if that fits.  If it does, your regular doc should be able to diagnose this, but hasn't, so maybe you'd want to see a derm.

I'm also looking for answers to the same problem. I have facial herpes sometimes but never anything down below.
Spots are all around head of penis. Been with same girl six years, no sex for about a year, and this stuff shows up out of nowhere? Look like tiny hard spot, then spreads out into circle/oval shape, flat and red. Tried fungus creme but seems to be spreading. No pain, itching, burning, puss, nothing. Somewhat shiny, with dry skin after stretched and released. Might be raised ever so slightly. Unemployed, with no insurance, so any news would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx

P.S- no pics on net seem to match.

Guys had same issue and was looking all over internet...no pictures really matched my prob and found alot of blogs with guys with my issue, but no one every put a response to what they finally found wrong so I decided to do that so someone else can maybe have an idea what might be up w/ them if they have this prob (im not a doctor/nurse so what Im going to say might not be true for you...should always see a doctor) anyway....here you guys go: About 1.6 months ago I had unprotected sex and noticed 2 weeks after that a pink/red shiny spot (slightly raised, flat, w/ a dry skin layer over) on my glans (size of pencil eraser tip)....I looked at all pics on the internet and none really looked like what I had. I went to my gp and he said that it didnt really look like an std so he had me put hydracordisone on it.....I did that (made some redness go away, but not all and mostly was unchanged). I then returned to see him 2 weeks later (2 long and depressing weeks...you guys know how that is) and he said I was probably nothing and to stop worrying and come back in 90 days (wtf??...man was I frustrated...I expected him to see my anguish and do more, maybe check closer, etc). Finally, I decided I needed to see someone else so I went to a dermatoligist.....what a difference. He came it...I explained my situation and what I thought it could be (wart, lichen planus, psoriasis) and he said a wart almost all the time is on the shaft because skin is very thin on glans and it didnt look like wart, he said maybe lichen planus, but since I had no white residue in mouth...not likely, and he also said even though most cases of psoriasis fit a certain profile...sometimes it can first be seen as atypical on the penis. He said maybe fungus, but not likely and said he was pretty sure that it was psoriasis...w/ small possibility of lichen planus and prescribed a cream called protopic which is used for lichen planus and psoriasis on genitals. Great! Especially because those were the 2 things he was sure I had. He was so good I almost gave him a hug......Ive used the protopic for 2 days now and the spot is almost gone. Anyway, hope this provides some direction.....good luck fellas!
