Should have been smarter

About 19 days ago I had unprotected sex which is something I normally never do unless I am in a monogomous relationship. I definitely will never make that mistake again. The only symptom I am noticing now is a kind of burning sensation down there..The problem is, I am a deployed soldier and dont have access to a real dr. We do have medics however but you cant get tested for stds where I am at. I do take doxycycline which they give us to prevent us from getting malaria..I started taking 2 100mg of Doxycycline since I started feeling the burning. I have gotten many UTIs in the past, but this feels a little different..What should I do? I redeploy in 30 days but is that too long to see a real dr?

Thank you, I really appreciate the information..Do you think any major damage could be done by waiting almost 2 months to get tested?
Thanks again.

you have the male gender icon hence why I assumed you were male. ok so let's start over - you can skip that prostate exam too ;)

Still though at this point, if you can't get an exam and some basic testing done, nothing really to be done until you can be seen. The doxy dose will take care of any chlamydia and maybe gonorrhea but not a lot of the other issues us gals are prone to.

if you seem to get a lot of uti's ( which are common in us gals due to how close all our orifices are down yonder ), consider taking fem dophilus by jarrow ( sold under urex cap 5 outside of the US ) regularly. It's been shown to decrease vaginitis as well as uti's by increasing our 'good" protective bacteria in the urogenital track.  it doesn't have to be refrigerated but it helps it to last longer.  It's far more helpful than being on antibiotics long term which just continue to kill off "good" protective bacteria and leave you vulnerable to so many other issues.

since it was unprotected sex, you can follow up with proper testing at the proper times - chalmydia, gonorrhea and trich after 1 weeks. syphilis after 6 weeks. herpes, hiv and hepatitis after 3 months.  good luck getting type specific herpes igg blood testing though through the military :(   even though you guys do get some basic std testing done yearly, I'd still properly cover all the bases again just to err on the side of caution.

now that we have your gender right, hope that helps more even though your options are very limited right now :)

Ah sorry, I should have been more specific, I am a female. Do you think I would be ok waiting for another month to get tested though even if I am taking the doxycycline? I'm going to get tested as soon as I get back to the states. The person I slept with was deployed as well and it is required that we get tested for HIV before deploying. That was not to say it was safe or smart, but I definitely won't make a mistake like that again. Thanks for your help.

males typically do not get uti's. certainly if you get them frequently, you should be following up on things properly with an urologist when you get to a base where you can do so.

doxy will help with a lot of std's but not all of them.  at this point not a heck of a lot you can do. drink plenty of fluids and should your burning get worse, be seen. if they have a microscope around they can look at some urine under the microscope to look for infection. same as you should be evaulated for prostatitis too. avoid caffeine, alcohol and spicy foods too until you get a better answer as to what is causing your symptoms.
