Should have known better

Im 37 years old and had an encounter 6/29 and im scared to death that i might have gotten "something".  I got blood done on 7/16 (lab) and the results came back 7/19 as positive herps1 and negtive herps 2 and everything else.

I have had like a pain sensation on the tip of my penis , it has gone away and i started masterbating again and then it came back.  Im so freaked out i have been of course losing sleep and , not eating, in fact i think im almost giving myself flu like symptoms even though i take my temp and it is normal.
I examine myself every 15 min to 1 hour and have notice no blisters or leisons.  Yesterday i was so nevervous i pooped 4 times and i think i strained something because my bumm hurts now.

After reading all the posts i could get my hands on some people claim that if you dont see blisters or leisons within 2-20 days then chances are you didnt get it , others say forget that you can still have it and not see anything for years.  I just took another test 8/24 and im waiting for the results.

i dont know what to believe as far as physcial symptoms and im really starting to lose my mind.  I have started taking sleep aids just to go to sleep

any advise would help

You should know that your experience is not unusual -- you are not alone.  People make mistakes, and people recover from the mistakes they have made.  I would highly recommend that you find a counselor to talk to about your concerns and anxieties, to help put this in perspective.  Especially if you are committed to keeping your family together, you owe it to them and to yourself to get some help here -- that does not make you a weak person, it makes you a strong one.  It can help you figure out why this happened in the first place, and what kinds of changes you should make to ensure that it doesn't happen again.

You are human.  Humans make mistakes.  Now do what you need to do to recover.

I dont ever remember having a cold sore in my life the most i get now a days is a canker sore, but who knows where i caught that from as you grow up you are in contact with lots of people.

i think im worried more about my family and wife after all this thing would really end me up in divorce and alone with out my kids. Now im not saying i didnt do this to myself but it scares me to death to lose so much over such a mistake that i cannot eat, sleep, or think about anything else.  All the pictures i see, the shame i will feel, the disgrace. So those are just some of the reasons.

And since this penise pain has been nagging me ( i dont like bend over from the pain) i guess i just want to know if it could be the start of something .   I see my doctor today and im sure he is going to poke and prod. I just keep reading how and when symptoms or the first occurance should come about to try and reassure myself while i wait but everytime i read something , i look at another article that says exactly the opposite.

Thank you for your input i will keep you posted on results

I meant to add, as did bad_choices, that your negative test at 8 weeks (8/24) will be highly reassuring if not quite definitive.

But the other question is why this is occupying your mind so dominantly.  Nobody wants to get herpes, but for most people it's not nearly the big deal that you are making it.  Mellow out.

Herpes can be totally asymptomatic. But if it causes symptoms at all, the symptoms are typical but mild.  In other words, the vague symptoms you describe are not likely to be due to herpes; if you don't have blisters that evolve to open sores then scabs over 10-14 days, it isn't likely to be herpes.

At least half the population is positive for HSV-1, mostly from oral infection in childhood (regardless of whether there is recollection of cold sores), so there is no reason to suppose that your positive blood test has anything to do with your symptoms or your exposure last June.  As bad_choices says, in theory you could develop a postive blood test for HSV-2 up to 3 months later, so if you want to pursue this further, you could have another blood test in late September.  But almost certainly it would be negative.  Of course follow up with your health care provider if your symptoms continue to concern you.

Best wishes--  HHH, MD

So Herpes 1 is almost exclusively oral herpes, or "cold sores".  Most of the adult population has Herpes 1.  Although it can be sexually transmitted, its not considered a sexually transmitted disease.  In any case you didn't get it from this encounter because 2 weeks is too quickly for the test result to become positive.  Have you experienced cold sores on your lips throughout your life?  (Not that it probably matters in this case, but having HSV1 does give you higher immunity to HSV2 than someone who doesn't have HSV1.)

This also means that the first test was too early to get a positive result of the genital herpes test (HSV 2), but I suspect the likelihood of infection from a single episode is very low.  Since you didn't see any classic signs of primary herpes infection in the first three weeks, I think the doctor will probably say that you don't need further testing.

But the 8/24 test at a little over six weeks should be reassuring (something like 90+% of people who eventually convert will convert within six weeks).  If you are still worried you can be tested again at 3 months, which is when nearly everyone who is going to convert does so.

Note, I'm not a doctor, just sharing what I have learned on this forum.

It sounds like you are most concerned about Herpes, is that correct?  Can you share what you did that has you concerned?  For instance, having unprotected sex with someone with visible genital sores might be high risk for herpes; having protected sex with someone with no visible sores is probably very, very low risk.
