Small bumps on Abdomen

Hi Doc -

I recently noticed these small bumps on my body.  They are fairly small and remind me of poison ivy or insect bites.  Most of them are just single bumps, in a couple places there are may be two or three together.  They are in a bunch of place though, I have a few on my hip, a few on both of my sides (spread out in single spots), a few on my chest, hand, legs etc.  Most of the time they are not noticeable, but do occasionally itch, never painful though.  Have had them for a few days now.

A couple of questions:

1. I assume this could not be herpes related?  I have read it can occur on random parts of the body (rare), but given that there are probably 20 - 30 bumps (maybe more) spread out on my body this makes it less likely since I believe the sores appear where you came into contact with the virus correct?  I am certain i could not have been contacted in this many places.  And they don't appears to be ulcerizing or anything like that after a couple of days now.

2. Is there anything else this could be STD related?

This information doesn't change my opinion or advice.  Not an STD.  You're never going to make a diagnosis by online searching.  See a doctor or clinic.

Thanks Doc - nothing much differnt to report, was in a club a little over 3 weeks ago, was intoxicated so most is blurry but I am certain anything that happened would have been protected (oral most likely).  This seems a bit late for HSV (but as you stated that doesn't seem possible from the symptoms).

The only other thing I can think of was maybe unprotected oral like 5 or 6 months ago, but this seems way out for that, but don't know much about syphilis and how long it takes for a rash to show up.  Isn't syphilis pretty rare these days and thought the rash is usually on palms and feet?  I saw some pictures of a syphilis rash and this doesn't look that.  These are just individual bumps mostly, some look they have a clear liquid in them or a whitehead. And again pretty spread out, one popped up under my knee yesterday.

Thanks for you thoughts.

Welcome back to the forum.

Herpes definitely would not cause such skin lesions.  Syphilis can cause a non-genital rash, but this certainly isn't typical of syphilis either.  It would be helpful to know about your current STD risk (your past questions on the forum have involved very low risk scenarios).  But based on your description, it is very unlikely this is due to any STD.  You might be on the right track in mentioning "insect bites" -- perhaps bed bugs?  Scabies?  If the problem continues, I would advise professional medical evaluation.

Best wishes--  HHH, MD
