So Worry

Hi doctor,

I am 32 years old, in last year december, I have sex with a girl, then I discovered my semen was yellow,
two week later, i discovered burning on both testicle, then my right testicle has a lump.
I am in china at that time, so i went  to see the doctor and the doctor said I got epididymitis and gave me a zithromax 250mg for first day, then a month for metronidazole 200mg, Minocycline 50mg, Lysozyme 60mg.
In mid Jan, I came back to US, I still feel burning on both side of testicles, so i go to the city clinic to check.
They give me two more weeks doxycycline 100 mg. And all STD test come out negative. The doctor there said I am clear. But I still feel some burning on my testicle.

After I stop the medicine, I still feel burning on the rectal area and left testicle.
So I began to go to the Chinese Herbalist, he gave me some chinese medicine.
Right now, My right testicle's lump go away and turn back to normal,
but I still feel chili and hot when i sitting too long and the semen still have little bit yellow.


I have a new girl friend and have sex with her this month.
a week after, she told me she feel uncomfortable.
She think may be she has UTI, because she have UTI before,
But I am so scare, I just worry may be I have chronic bacterial and transmit to her.

Do u think after a long treatment, I still have STD and transmit to her?
Why I still have chili and hot feeling when i was sitting too long?

It would be unlikely for the STD tests you have had to be false negative.  If you don't believe me, get another test- it will be negative too.  

Epididymitis is caused by bacteria, not viruses.  Some antibitoics get intot the prostate better than others.  Minocycline, in particular, gets in quite well.  

Your symptoms really do not suggest prostatitis to me.  EWH

Hey doctor,

I have one more question, You said I was treated with far more than the recommended doses of antibiotics for what may have been epididymitis.
If the virus still present deep inside my Prostate gland, it will still possible to transmit to my girl friend. Because some antibotics cannot effective killing virus inside the Prostate gland right?

I see a lot of posts on internet, and seem my symptom like chronic Prostatitis, if this is a chronic bacterial  Prostatitis, I still have chance to transmit to my partner.

I am so scare, It is possible the STD test have false negative if I only have urine test right?

Everyone is different however for most people, any residual discomfort that occurs will tend to diminish over time.  Only you can be the judge of whether you need to see a doctor or not.  If your discomfort is getting worse over time, you should see a doctor.  If it is getting better or not changing, there is likely less need to see a doctor although you may choose to do so for your own peace of mind.  EWH

Thanks alot doctor, you really help me to release some stress.
as you said there is residual discomfort due to inflammation from the infection.
Will I need to live with this symptom forever (chili and cold feeling in rectal area) ? Or this symptom will go away later.
Because I really don't know I need to see a doctor or not.
After the therapy, I almost have these kind of symptom a year, and I need to sit eight hours a day for work. So this is really a issue for me.
I am just afraid I have chronic Prostatitis after the infection.

You have nothing to worry about unless you have been re-infected since you were treated.  You were treated with far more than the recommended doses of antibiotics for what may have been epididymitis (it is hard to be sure of this diagnosis) and that therapy will be completely curative of infection.  On occasion, following such infections there is residual discomfort which is not due to active infection itself but to residual inflammation from the infection. This cannot be transmitted to others and is not a reason to be concerned.

As far as your partner is concerned, urinary tract infections are not uncommon in women, particularly if she has had them before.  Sometimes sexual activity is followed by UTIs.  If she has questions, she should be checked out. this is a much more effective approach to her problems (and your concerns) than for you to worry unnecessarily.
