Stressing Out

Hello Dr...Thank you a million times for this valuable expertise you share.  My question is as follows:

I had a 1 time encounter without protection with a young (just turned 21) women.  We had sex twice, once at night and in the morning, both times without protection.  3 days later she was tested for the following STDs:  HIV, Gonerhea, cyphulus, chlamydia, herpes, etc..   She was negative on all but chlamydia and she is still waiting on herpes results.

1.  My question is what is the probability of me getting chlamydia from her,
2.  and if herpes turns out positve that too.
3.  HIV was negative.  She claims she has only had 1 other sexual partner over the last 3 months, her boyriend.  Should I be concerned about HIV too?  I am very nervous about this.

Thank you for your help!!!

Correct. With her negative test you do not need testing.

A far as treatment is concerned, I'll be if you look in the phone book you can find the number for the local Health Department.  Call them and they can guide you as to where to go to get treated expeditiously (and probably inexpensisively)  EWH

I will go get treated right away.  I am in Hawaii and I am having difficulty locating a doctor.

On the HIV question.  Are you saying that since her test is negative I don't need to worry?  Sorry, I may be overaalyzing.

Thanks!

Welcome to our Forum.  I will go straight to your question.

1.  You need to get treated for chlamydia.  Following an exposure to an infected partner, it is important that you be treated, either for infection if you got it or to prevent it if you have a negative test.
2.  On the other hand it is unlikely that you have HSV.,  If you do not develop lesions within 10-12 days of your exposure, you really have nothing to worry about.
3.  No concern at all about HIV., there really is a very low risk of her having HIV and that she has a negative HIV test is virtually a guarantee that she does not have HIV.  If she did not have HIV, you are at no risk.

Hope this helps. Go get treated for chlamydia. Otherwise you have little to be concerned about.  EWH
