Symptoms Persist

Symptoms Persist

In mid April I was diagnosed with chlamydia (had burning sensation, sore at tip of the penis) and was given Zithro (sp??). After a week I was starting to get an infection in the eye and went in to get Vigamox drops. After about two weeks of it not clearing up, I went to the urologist and was given Levaquin (sp??) along with checking the prostate, etc and testing negative for chlamydia The burning sensation gradually went away, but the "heavy" eyelid never went away. A week ago, the slight burning sensation returned and the more frequent urination along with the continued eye problems. I have not had any sex in the time preiod (period) after first diagnosis. Could I still have chlamydia or is there another problem that the doctors are missing? Also, is it usual to have the heavy top eyelid after chlamydia is cleared up>

Thanks

Was your chlamydial infection diagnosed by lab test, or only on the basis of your symptoms?  Your genital symptoms are consistent with chlamydia but also with other things.  Azithromycin (Zithromax) is highly effective and treatment failure rare.  Levofloxacin (Levaquin) also is highly effective, and there is no possibility of chlamydia persisting after both those treatments.

I doubt your eye problem was chlamydia; although chlamydia can infect the eye, it is uncommon.  (In 30 years in an STD clinic, I have seen only 2 cases--so I don't have much experience with it.)

So follow up with your doctor(s) if symptoms persist, but don't worry about persisting chlamydial infection.

Good luck--  HHH, MD

Thanks, I was diagnosed by the lab with chlamydia and was checked again a few weeks later and the test was negative. Although, the burning/discomfort has diminished, I still fell it, especially after sitting at a desk all day.
Thanks again.
