Symptoms nearly 4 months post encounter

Hi...I had a questionable sexual encounter about 16 weeks ago and I'm still experiencing symptoms.

I have been tested for HIV, HSV, Syphillis, Hep, chlamydia, gonnorhea several times. My last serology tests were 14 weeks post encounter and everything was negative.

The Urologist diagnosed me with prostatitis - I have a "boggy" prostate, intermittent pain at tip of penis and clear, sticky discharge. He prescribed 3 months of cipro, 500mg twice per day. I'm halfway through that treatment and I've seen minimal relief. Still some pain and discharge although less frequent than before.

I'm also experiencing swollen glands in neck (since about 3-4 weeks post encounter) and lately I've noticed palpable glands in armpits and groin along with some general discomfort. As well I get discomfort/irritation sporadically in my throat although it's not really bad enough to call a sore throat. The Urologist says this has nothing to so with prostatitis and that I should see an ENT specialist.

Is there any explanation for this?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Redness isn't "due to discharge" if you don't see the discharge itself. Based on all the other information you provide, I doubt the redness is anything abnormal.

Thanks for the feedback, HowardH. If I could ask one more question...when I wake up in the morning there is often redness around my meatus where my foreskin doesn't touch. I assume this is due to discharge overnight. What does this mean?

Prostatitis isn't an STD. In fact, most prostatitis isn't even due to any infection at all (at least no infection that has been discovered as a cause). Antibiotics always are tried, which is why your urologist prescribed cipro; but they usually make no difference, so your lack of improvement also is typical.

The good news is that such problems are unimportant except for the discomfort itself. Complications of chronic prostatitis are rare if they occur at all, and there is no harm to men's sex partners either.

Your other symptoms also don't fit with any STD. Despite the timing following the sexual exposure 4 months ago, it is unlikely you have any infection from that event. As grace said in your earlier thread, the majority of your symptoms probably have a psychological origin.

Follow up with your urologist about the prostate issues. Beyond that, do your best to move on without worry.
