Symptoms within a week?

Dr...

The situation, I had unprotected sex with a new partner (I'm a man - partner a woman). My partner developed cystitis within a couple of days of intercourse.  Within a week she has also started to develop a yeast infection -

Q - is there a possibility that this is being caused by an STD?

Women can develop cystitis after intercourse when bacteria normally present in the lower gastrointestinal tract enter the bladder through the urethra.  Usually, the bacteria are usually removed through urination, but occasionally infection occurs.  To my knowledge, STDs are not associated with cystitis.  Yeast infections are very common and are not really associated with STDs.  If you remain concerned, you could ask your partner if she has been tested for STDs.
Good luck,
Em
