Syphilis contagiousness

Hi,

Diagnosed with syphilis in the primary stage. I know that one is not contagious within 24 hours of receiving a penicillin shot, however that's not an option where I live.  I am currently taking oral medication (500mg, 3x/day of Ampicillin, NOT penicillin). Am I contagious the entire time I am taking the oral medication, or will the effects be similar to a penicillin shot?

Thank you!

No, I have no symptoms at all.  It only came up during a routine STD check.
