Syphilis or Sebaceous Cyst

by before_it_falls_off, Apr 02, 2009 05:53PM
Hello,

I recently developed a lump on the underside-shaft, near the base of my penis. It is about the size of a pee, hard and sore to squeeze or push on. The skin covering it is smooth and glossyish. I went to my doctor and he said it might be a Sebaceous Cyst but it could also be Syphilis. I have faithfully been with the same partner for years but the Dr. said that Syphilis can live in your body for a long period without generating symptoms.

He has told me to get a blood test but to wait for a couple of months to see if it go's away on its own and that Syphilis may not show up on the test becasue the lump is quite new. I am not sure if this is good advice or not? Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Before it falls off

Oh good lord your doctor is wrong on so many levels lol.

First, syphilis doesn't produce symptoms that look at all like cysts.  Google chancre and see images and I'll bet money that its not what yours looks like.

Syphilis will show symptoms within several weeks.  The average time from infection to getting a chancre is 21 days.  That will go away within weeks, and then its dormant for awhile, then you get other symptoms within weeks.

He also contradicted himself.  If he thinks you've possibly had it in your body for a long time, why wouldn't he test you today?  That would mean its not a new infection, right?

Apply warm compresses to it, and if its not better over the weekend, follow up with maybe another doctor.  If it gets bigger, you get a fever, etc., go to an urgent care if its over the weekend.
