Test Interpretations

Test Interpretations

I have taken HSV test two times in my life.

The first time I took it, was because I was concerned and worried for myself. The doctor told me my results and he said I was HSV 1 positive and HSV 2 positive. This was in January, and have been devastated and depressed this whole time.

Recently though, a loved one told me to retest because I am miserable. The results came back HSV 1 positive and HSV 2 negative.

-------------------------------------
January 2008 Test Results
-------------------------------------
HSV 1 = 3.87
HSV 2 = 1.49

-------------------------------------
October 2008 Test Results
-------------------------------------
HSV 1 = >5.00
HSV 2 =   0.57

Now... I have read about low positives being false positives. And since my recent test for HSV 2 is (0.57) which is really low. Does that mean I am HSV 2 negative? or do I need a 3rd test?

Thanks!

I would suggest that you read through the Doctor`s forum, where an extensive discussion of Herpes testing interpretation is available. From your titers, your have HSV-1 and not HSV-2. Take care.

Your first HSV2 test was a VERY low positive, and as your second test proved, a false positive.

It is recommended that anything under a 3.5 on the hsv2 IgG be confirmed, especially when you have no symptoms and a pre-existing hsv1 infection.

You do not have hsv2.
