Test Results for HSV...although 1st number is combined HSV 1/11

Here is what my test results said:

Test results:           Neg      <0.8
HSV 1/11 IgG   = 29.9   Equivocal 0.9-1.0
                        Positive >1.0

Note: Negative indicates no antibodies detected to either HSV-1 or HSV-2. Equivocal may suggest early infection. If clinically appropriate retest at a later date. Positive indicates antibodies detected to HSV-1 & or HSV-2

HSV 11 IgG, type Spec
Results = Negative               Neg      <0.8
                                 Equivocal 0.9-1.0
                                 Positive >1.0

Note:Negative indicates no antibodies detected to HSV-2. Equivocal may suggest early infection. If clinically appro retest at a later date. Positive indicates antibodies detected to HSV-2; coinfection  with HSV 1 cannot be excluded, without type specific testing.

Question: (Like Omaha Ray), I also had a combined total, although mine is 29.9   However, for HSV 2 my results are Negative. I wasn't given a number..only the word "Negative"..So that must mean that I am positive for HSV 1 since it was 29.9 & negative for HSV 2 ?
Hope this makes sense to you.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart! I know we all greatly appreciate your expertise!

With apology, the larger number (29.9) does not make sense to me.  HerpeSelect results normally are reported out exactly as you cite in you question:  With separate numbers for HSV-2 (and HSV-1, if tested); I don't know the meaning of the "combined" number.

In any case, to be certain your HSV-2 result indeed is negative, ask your provider to confirm that the lab report indicated an HSV-2 result less than 1.0.

Good luck--  HHH, MD
